Got a little more shaping done on the new sides, but still more to to on them. Its a slow process with using just files so you don't take to much off. Also ran into a little snag with the correction of the rear of the receiver which I now have to figure out how to finish. I also figured I would post a link to the Blueprints/ Technical drawings that I am using for anyone interested. www.nfatoys.com/tsmg/There are drawings for almost all the parts for the Thompson here

Finally figured out how to finish the rear of the receiver, had to add a 1mm piece of aluminum to make the area long enough to properly shape it and have it the right dimensions. Also finished the front angled section of the left side. There is still some shaping to do to the rear but it is getting there Thanks to HornetWSO this conversion will also be getting a new stock once it gets here.

With the cold weather we had the last couple weeks I haven't had a chance to get out in the garage(its un-heated) to do any more work on the Thompson. I will have some progress pics up by the end of the week since it has finally decided to warm up a little.
I did do the first of 6 30rnd to 20rnd mag conversions I plan on doing and will include pics of it.

I now have the left side attached And have one of the 6 King Arms mids converted to 20rnd length. I made a special jig for sanding the edges of the mags after cutting the section out to shorten them so the joints are perfectly square.

I'm always so impressed with the metal fabrication work that people put into some conversions. congrats. Is the compensator a newer custom or one of the originals that you found at an antique store?

How did you build up the receiver sides? I started on of these conversions but i am still not finished. I did my conversion almost 4 years ago and i wasn't sure how to do that part

Cool project, just wondering... Would you sell some 20rd size mags? Or could you convert mine if I'd send them?

Its pretty simple bloodandguts. Just take a piece of sheet metal and cut out the shape. Then drill the hole for the sight. Lastly bend the sight part upward. I just finished my L-sight.

I am not sure. If your buying it at a hardware store I think you could just eye it. Compare it to the thickness of the Thompson rear sight box. Mine is a bit thinner then the Thompson rear sight box. That way its easier to bend and cut through.

I'm actually more interested in getting the shape correct, not necessarily finding out the material used.

Use the M1A1 rear sight box as a guide to the length and width of the L sight. Then use the M1A1 sight to see how tall you need it to be. Pretty simple.

On second thought, I know of a place where I could get a real steel "L" sight for $25+s&h, that way the perfectionist in me wouldn't be freaking out because of inaccuracies. Pretty simple.

Yea I mean you can get it pretty close. I cut my sight too short but I am too lazy to do another one. Where can you get em for $25?

Instead of using the L sights, it is possible to make the adjustable ladder type using 1/8" aluminum sheet for the ladder and sheet metal for the slide part of the sight. Its exactly what I did when I corrected the flaws in my CYMA M1928a1. Using machine screws, it is also fully adjustable for windage and elevation.
