The plan is to hold the event in late May or early June Stay tuned for further updates. We'll give as much lead time as possible. Bleank fire will be present but as ambiance not as designed tactical play. (Reaction to it is optional) The primary focus of the event will be as an airsoft reenactment. The previous location is no longer available but other venues are being negotiated with.

No there is so much set up and logistical challenges as it is. The event will be in Western Washington although much closer to the I-5 corridor than the remote site we've used in the past. It wasn't the end of the world but you could see it from there.

Awesome! Can't wait to make the hike up to Washington... My luck though you'll be doing it right at the tail end of the academy, but I hope to make it this year.

If you go pretty much airsoft only, will any of the blank fire guys attend, if they are even desired? Are they to just shoot a few rounds and then just watch, or carry two weapons?

The focus has always been airsoft with blank fire providing that wonderful ambiance blank fire brings. We also use fire crackers and other pyro to suplement the atmosphere. It's interesting when the rules dictate that responding to blank fire by dying is voluntary the reactions tend to be more agreeable and better than when you try to mix the two in accordance to both rule sets which ends up being unsatisfactory to both.
The presence of blank fire prevents the blatant walking across open areas because you know you're more than a hundred yards away which enhances realism and reduces the often frustrating experience you see at some airsoft only events. It also provides the sound and fury of muzzle flashes and loud reports which is always cool. Up close the direct fire of airsoft removes any and all doubt about who is being targeted or struck randomly.
There are plenty of blankfire folks who get that and I expect reasonable attendance by them. If not, that's okay too. I want everyone who comes to have a great time but don't want anyone coming under false assumptions or expectations.
For clarity all players are strongly encouraged to respond to a blankfire attack and my experience is that just as many airsofters do as blank fire folks at similar all blankfire events. The frustration by people busting caps is just the same as at any tactical simulation they typically attend. By making the reaction voluntary it eliminates the need to deal with the rare but ever present "Rambo, come on dudes I got all of ya" mindset we often see at blankfire only events. My favorite is the guy facing away from me with his weapon pointing East who seeing me out of the corner of his eye pops off a round or two (without even partially swinging his rifle around) and expecting me to be dead. Or the blankfire group running across an open area well beyond airsoft range firing their blanks at the treeline full of airsofters and ignoring their fire but expecting the folks in the treeline to all fall dead to their blankfire because...I guess... because it's louder?
Both instruments used to simulate tactical action have strengths and limitations and I expect folks who come will either be primarily airsoft or blankfire but not both. At the last event we did however have some folks who came with both and swapped around throughout the event according to what was happening. They didn't lug around both (typically) There was however at least one Kraut with a blankfire Kar 98 and a slung Airsoft MP40 and that seemed to work well.
I hope that provides additional clarity? This is absolutely not an us vs them appraoch but an attempt to successfully marry the two and I think it works well.

having done both blank and airsoft events, the combination in the manner 2nd Bat describes is a HUGE improvement over the two singularly. it addresses the weaknesses inherent int he two simulation forms all at once. we have done it here in californian to similarly positive results.
The best part is the cadre running JTD understands the nuances of the experience they are conjuring. No matter what the mechanics are ultimately, they understand how to evoke the magic with whatever tools they are provided.
Still the most 'not to be missed event' of its kind.

So now your confusing me. Is your operation going to be any different in regards to blank fire than previous JTD's?

Blankfire participants as before will be encouraged to participate and certainly will be more than welcome. The rule sets will simply be clearer with regard to the marriage between airsoft and blankfire. In the past it wasn't very well defined and there were some (not many) but some issues. Airsoft folks didn't have a clear comprehension about how to behave and the blanfire folks weren't as clear as they needed to be as well. The intent is for the mix to be about 80/ 20 and for it to be consistent on both the German and Allied sides. The last two events there were very very few allied folks with blank weapons and not enough Germans with airsoft weapons.
Odd since there is an abundance now of German airsoft weapons and precious few US airsoft weapons readily available.

Ok I see now. thanks. So any idea when and where the event will take place? What is your plan to attract the non-airsoft persons?

That's a Dodge right? Obviously we'd love to have it there. There were quite a few period correct vehicles at the last event bot US and German.

Yep, 3/4 ton dodge. Can be used either as a troop carrier or cannon truck (mounted in the bed). I have the full canvas set and the MG mount as well.
