To me the G&G looks a lot more accurate in it's general shape - the ICS doesn't have the barrel step, and the stock seems too fat, with the wrong angle.
That being said, it's still heaps and bounds better than anything else made so far, so I'm happy.

I've seen several YouTube videos of people chronoing the ICS M1. The airsoft gi review chronoed the m1 at 350 fps. A Chinese airsoft company chronoed it at 420. The last one i saw was from a small airsofy shop and they chronoed it at 390.

It is tough from the pictures alone to establish which is the better looking replica but from the pictures and videos released so far the GnG does look a little better. Both look fantastic however and assuming they perform well will be a great new addition to our hobby. Like all brand new guns they will need a little stain work and artificial aging in my opinion in order to look "right" but that's probably just me.

Two clips is a wise move. Obviously even more will be required to be skirmishable along with at least a couple speed loaders but as a minimum a guy could concievably get by with the two 43 round clips. A typical combat load for a rifleman in WW2 was 100 rounds with most anecdotally saying they usually tried going into action with 200 to 250 rounds.

I've always thought 2 mags was an ics thing. All the ics AEGs ive bought in the past came with 2 mags but no battery.

A typical combat load for a rifleman in WW2 was 100 rounds with most anecdotally saying they usually tried going into action with 200 to 250 rounds. Doctrine in combat was also a lot different than the doctrine taught at home. It's my impression that the stuff the GIs learned in basic was, well, VERY basic and not terribly realistic. Most of the know-how was handed down from more experienced guys in the field, including the advice about carrying a lot more ammo and generally expending rounds when in doubt, rather than trying to save ammo and miss your chance.

Seff is absolutely correct. RECON BY FIRE was not taught at basic but the importance of it was emphasized to the green troops immediately upon reaching their units. Ammo however as you well know is heavy and the trade off between mobility, comfort and firepower was always a deliberate choice. If airsofters had to lug around a brick for every 150 BBs they chose to carry into a skirmish we'd start to see some realistic choices about ammo loads. triple that and demand a brick for every 450 rounds to account for the need to throw a lot more Bbs downrange than lead and you get the idea. I am by no means advocating this. (airsoft is supposed to be fun) but I do like putting out the reminder. My main bitch about airsoft skirmishes are the "spray and pray", repeated 250 round, hose fests! Rifles like the Garand with semi only and 43 round clips are going to impact realism in a very positive way and in my opinion greatly influence more enjoyable and immersive battles. Eventually this should lead to restricting people to low cap only and a higher percentage of players limited to semi auto fire.

Seems people will choose automatics instead of SA and bolt actions that made up the bulk of arms used though.

Went to the golden cobra sale at ASGI today, they had the M1 garand there for test fire and display. I was able to fire off a mag's worth before I went to the boneyard. Disclaimer, I have never fired a real garand, only held one. My time with the gun was also limited: the booth was crowded with fellows interested in the new magpul gun.
the weight and balance felt good, neither front nor rear heavy, well distributed overall. The wood was a nice stain, not too red, and didn't feel like pine. However, it did not seem like walnut either. The employees were uncertain as to the wood type as well. Overall it felt solid, and well built. I cannot say how authentic it is, as I don't even know what to look for on a WWII M1 garand, I am only familiar with carbines and to an extent BARs.
The magazine, according to the staff, can only hold up to 35-40 rounds before feeding errors result. Less than advertised, but still far better than eight. I was unsure as to what battery they used, but i feel it was most likely a 9.6. Trigger response was rapid, and I was able to squeeze shots off in quick succession. The "firing range" was only 15 feet long: i cannot say how effective this rifle is at range, or how good the hop-up is. I neglected to ask for FPS, but the general feels seems to be in the high 300s, maybe low 400s.
Overall i was very impressed, I only wish I had my phone with me so that I could have snapped off a few pictures. The employees themselves were unsure as to when the gun would arrive, so that's still up in the air.

I am assuming you were handling the ICS and not the GnG? When a mag capacity is say 42 the actual feed capacity is always somewhat less than that due to the gap between the pushing power in the clips spring and the tappet plate inside the gun that actually pushes the BBs into place. thats why BBs always seem to drop out f your AEGs when changing mags. A clip in the 30s is just fine in my opinion for WW2. Love hearing that it felt and looked good.
i had heard that they shipped 100 for retailers to use as advanced demos. hopefully it shouldnt be too much longer. (perhaps within a month?). Im like a kid at Christmas over these.

+1 kid in candy store!
I have been holding back on our next events date to see when possibly in march the Garands are getting into our preordered hands.

Indeed, was the ICS garand. As for magazine capacity, the weapon is single shot: that made the '30' round mag take a fair amount of trigger pulling to empty, so I wouldn't be overly worried about running dry too quickly

I have always like a three or four to one ratio for airsoft vs real mag capacity so somewhere around 30 rounds is ideal in my book. Similarly a Thompson should be 60 to 80.

Who would of thought that the first retail review would be from a regular airsofter, reporting on a gun he bought off the shelf in a retail store. So much for the advantages of " pre-ordering" Yikes! Nice report however. The wood looks better in those shots than what we have seen previously
The stock neck does look a bit off. No doubt to facilitate the motor but it's nothing I would have my feathers ruffled over. Overall it looks great and just makes me more and more excited about getting mine which I placed a pre order on the first day EVIKE was accepting them.
Perhaps with this report, common release of these shouldn't be too much longer. I suspect this particular retailer sold what was intended to be a "demo" store model since I heard ICS sent their initial 100 rifles into the US to serve in that capacity.

There are some things to be careful with. The spade connectors are a bit loose, so careful when tugging the connector out. The front piece is held by a tiny hex screw under the front sight. This piece literally keeps the gun together so it is very important. Also I gotta admit that shooting it as an AEG isn't as fun as if it were a gas blowback, but that's just a minor nitpick for me. That comment let me down hard. Assembled like a TM M14. Could have been so much better. Waiting for the G&G to see what it offers.

The hex screw under the site is a solution I and others have used on the conversions (on occassion) and frankly when I have done it, it is has been extremely robust with no issues at all. I wouldn't do a bayonet course with it but short of that it should be fine. I am more and more anxious for these to get here. I sent Evike and email stating that people are getting these over the counter now. Obviously bugging them for an updated ETA. I also asked about availability of spare cllps. I recieved a boilerplate response (" you'll get it when we do.") and they didn't repond to the clip question. It's all reminiscent of the MATRIX BAR mess.

If you are that concerned with it, just Thread lock it. Update on the M1 is this. Estimated ETA is early March. That is all the information we have, and at that, only 100 of these are coming to the United States on the first batch so I would get them while you can. As for the G&G, I wouldn't expect to see it until Christmas. One last thing, Here is the Side by Side comparison that I was talking about a few weeks ago.

Good news. ICS M1"clips" do fit in a cartridge belt. Pretty much anyway. Picked up 7 from ehobby. 2 coming with the M1 so my mounted cartridge belt will be full. They also fit in a bandoleer, but not so fun getting them out. Mounted Cartridge belt and bandoleer are WPG reproductions.

That is great news and surprising. How long did it take you to get your clips from ehobby and how much did they charge for The clips themselves and shipping? Assuming you're in the US?

I am Canadian.
Ordered them during chinese new year. Ehobby was closed for this.
Mags shipped out Tuesday, got them today.
7 clips came to $154.05 USD shipped. Express Shipping was $41, Clips came to $119 and there was the "5% member discount"
I rarely do express shipping, it was a calculated risk in order to have them here before my next wwii game.
Garand was ordered by a third party and shipped the same day. It is in country and out for delivery.
Should have it in my hands Saturday for our Foy Re-visited game barring nobody being home for the delivery. Crossing my fingers.
Edit. Received confirmation that my M1 will be good to go for our Foy game. I'll let y'all know how it performs.

Tried the ICS M1 at our Foy game. The temperature outside made for a finicky aeg. Took 5 mags worth of bb's for the trigger contacts and mechbox to respond properly. It's a shooter. Has a great look and feel. No noticeable wobble. The only dislike I have is changing mags. This is no easy task compared to a Thompson or Grease Gun aeg or Marusin M1 Carbine. This will take some getting used to as they don't simply drop out when the bolt release is acctuated (I read or heard this was how it was going to work) I had to pull (pry?) them out while in the work station position. The mag just sits in there snug, no catch. Wood is quality so I imagine it won't wear down to the point where the mag won't hold. Edit the mag is held in by a catch acctuated by the bolt release. However, acctuating the bolt release does not make the mag drop out. I have to pry the mag out. I chronied the muzzle velocity on mine at ~408 fps with .20 gram bbs. After the hop up was adjusted the M1 had very good range for a stock aeg. There were more than a few 200 footer that hit targets. My guess is this aeg will perform excellently with heavier bbs such as .28 grams. Mags will fire ~30 rds before needing a swap out.
