This is a chinese movie about the Nanking Massacre.
The suprising part is that one of the main chracters is actualy japanese, and quite sympathetic.
The movie also show japanese soldiers not as sucidle bonzia charging lounies but as a modern military force, using tactics like any modern WW2 army.
The movie shows the japanse massmurder and mass rape, even raping women to death, yet you donæ't feel like this is a movie made to demonise the japanese, as I said one of the main character is japanese and a nice guy, caouht up in something horrible.
The movie is shot in B&W but looks great and has fantastic sound.
But there is alot of horrible stuff happening so much you actualy feel quite fatueged after watching it, it's two hours of mans inhumanity to man(and women)

Just saw this myself. Amazing film. Really believable and amazing combat footage but far more than that it is an anti-war movie. On the level of the russian film "come and see" but in my opinion far more beautifully and poignantly shot.
It brings the grim reality back to people who have been fed stories of glory, duty and heroism. While war has a lot of those, it is mostly brutality.

One day I think the Chinese will pay Japan back for what they did.
Personally I think this incident is VERY highly overlooked by the history books.

Thanks for posting this gunfreak
Fusilier- this incident is VERY much overlooked, especially in the whitewashed history books we have here in America. Every time someone says slavery was the most brutal, horrible thing ever, I just point them toward the Holocaust and Nanking (or the whole Sino-Japanese war in general)
