What I would like to know is how to correctly apply linseed oil to a gunstock.

clean the wood with soap and water, then let it dry. it will look molted and crappy. don't freak out this in normal. then apply liberally the oil. wipe int on and let it soak in. afterword, take a rag and put a little oil on it, wipe down the whole stock. let it dry again then wipe it with paper towels or whatever to get the remainder off.
