I've seen on youtube videos and remember postings around here of replica backpack radios like the PRC-10 / PRC-25 / PRC-77, where you could plug in a motorola radio and use a hand held set. From what I've researched on my own, the MacV guy used to make them, but doesn't anymore due to cost? I was wondering if anyone else knew where one might acquire such a radio or at least a decent replica that could be customized and utilized in this capacity. Any model would do... Any information would be great! Thank you

I bought FOUR of his radios, and all are CRAP!!! I've got the 25's being re-done in AR, by a former nam SOG guy who's putting antannaes on them, and doing some cosmetic repair work. The BC1000 and BC 611, where do i begin? Neither worked, my asst instructor took them home, and had to RE-wire the whole thing. The 611, never did work, he had to re-do the push to talk button, if you come by the airshow next weekend, I'll be more than happy to show you them. Luckily, after hours of work and frustration, he has them up and running. If you stop by, we'll be right next to the Marine Corps League. We're actually 'toying' with the idea of making some radios, using real shells. The parts, some are inexpensive, and some aren't. Stop by, we'll chat. Or, pm me, I'll give you my email/phone number and we can get together sometime and I can show you the radios. Gerry and Spencer are going to be out there as well. Semper Fi, Gunner

There were definitely challenges with the way MACV set things up but nothing too hard to square away. The BC 100 mold is one I'd love to have as I think there is a good market there but I could never arrange to buy them from him at a reasonable price. (He has moved on to other things)
The former SOG guy doing up the radios does top notch work and uses top notch materials. He is Hammer 11 on the Vietnam-airsoft site.
I have a bunch (eight) PRC 25/77s I use for our RECONDO school and they work great. We simply place the GMRS radios in a side pouch and use the after market handsets. Hammer 11 actually puts 5 watt radios inside and wires them to use actual handsets and antennas.
Our approach is simple and less expensive but not as authentic. I don't have any for sale but believe Hammer 11 does build and sell his.

Those little handy talkies are excellent but haven't been available for some time. I have a really cool set of replica BC1000 radios mounted on back boards (as they often were done. The fellow who made the molds never pursued the business which is a shame as they were really well done and are great props. I continue to stay in touch with the fellow in hopes he will resume production. The concern is they are quite large and the way the mold is done they require a lot of polyuerethane in the pour and quite of bit of additional cost in the finish process so he couldn't sell them profitably with enough volume to make it worthwhile. Being heavy they were also costly to ship.
I thought they were worth it in that they were less than you can get real ones at and I had no concerns with setting them up with modern GMRS radios. I bought each for $285.00 with the antennas and handsets.
