cairo1- walk-on players pay the same as the pre-registration players but you don't get a chance for a free grenade that way. Pre-registration is good for the organizers for obvious reasons. But, telling Rekkon you are coming and paying at the gate works too if you just want him to know your intentions and if not there is nothing stopping you from just showing up the day of battle if you want to keep your options open and can't or won't commit. Hope you can make it. I favor a higher rate for arrival at the gate just for general principals. Just saying...

I really want to come to this, I wish I would have seen the info sooner. All I have wwII is an AGM stg and a shell ejecting kar98. The AGM shoots way hot (435 fps). What kind of loaners are available and what's the cost?

Leave the shell ejecting Kar at home. The first post of this thread answers your other questions. The stg can be used on semi-auto only and has a minimum engagement of 50 feet. Carry some grenades or a pistol for close up or hang back during the close quarter fighting and you'll be fine. Cost of the event is twenty dollars.

Available loaners are two AGM MP40s and a JG BAR-10, $10 for the day, bring your own quality BBs (or buy some from me).
The MOA allows "hot" AEGs up to 450 FPS, so your MP44 would be a legal weapon. However, it would be restricted to semi-auto only and be subject to a 50 foot minimum engagement distance.
And just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to preregister. Walk-on players are welcome and will pay the same fee but will not receive a free grenade.

Great, thanks! Semi auto is no problem. I'm a pretty seasoned player so I actually prefer semi auto and well aimed shots to blasting away at everything that moves. This will be my first ww2 event if I can make it, I've been wanting to get into it for quite some time now but ran into some hurdles in the last year. Hopefully 2012 will have better luck for me as far as putting together a ww2 impression!

Sorry so many posts, I set up a login on WAA but it hasn't been activated yet. I was just re reading the game rules and realize that I have no mid caps for my stg, nor do I have any idea where I would find any since as far as I know they do not exist. What do you think the odds are of actually being able to get one of the loaners? I'm coming from Chicago and also by myself so I would hate to not be able to play, I have some other AEG's but I'd really rather use a period weapon even though I would be playing as a partisan.

Bring the MP-44. Unless your heart is totally set on it, forget partisan. I have a spare snow suit that you can wear. Also, I have Y-straps and belt to go with it and a cap. Then you'll look pretty German. Too bad you have to drive alone. Cairo1 who is on these boards doesn't have transportation and could share the drive with you if he wanted to come and I'm thinking he would. He's fun on trips too. Maybe see if he wants to carpool with you and lower your expenses. For the loaner gear, let me know it is you when you see me. Weather forecast looks so pleasant.

Non-high caps are required for modern weapons. WWII weapons are allowed to use high caps. Your MP44 is fine to use, and there will be others in play. Currently, none of the rental weapons have been claimed. Rekkon, Any preview on the scenarios that you are planning for game play? Are we stealing rations or hunting for gold bars in the tractor factory? Or is it verboten top secret- With respect, Fritz Full details will be given at the event, but here you go: The first scenario will have the Germans attacking through a series of Russian strongpoints toward their ultimate goal of securing the tractor factory (Apoc's castle). The Russians will have to contest every inch of territory, hoping their foes run out of time before they run out of men and ground. The second scenrio sees the encircled Germans trapped within a shrinking pocket inside downtown Stalingrad (Apoc's tin city). It is now their turn to hold out as long as possible, facing severe supply shortages (no relolading) and Russian attacks from all sides. Also, unless complications arise, the snow conditions (or lack thereof) will allow mortars and the BA-64 armored car.

Today we had "cough, cough" Stalingrad and it was a test of pretending it was snowy and cold outside. I really just can't believe the weather and our poor luck. I mean if only we had scheduled this event for this coming Tuesday when they predict 50-degree F temps I wouldn't have suffered any chill at all. (The preceding comments are my attempt at wry humor, weak as it is.)
Maybe this starts off 2012 with weather so good we won't be able to keep pace but I figure we were due. Lets hope this keeps up.
The event was short-lived for me as I pulled a muscle in my leg, (hamstring?) while engaged in another courageous bunker charge and only played about one hour of the first scenario and what a tasty scenario it was... for the Russians. Imagine a field chock full of bunkers and high vantage points and crossing fields of fire and then put the sun squarely in the eyes of the attackers and you get my meaning. The Germans had unlimited re-spawns and to win the scenario we had to punch our way through to a final objective, the Castle, but getting there, at least for me was impossible. I was shot on every approach and I didn't hit anyone although I traded fire with some shadows. It was very tough for us attackers and I don't believe it worked out for us and the Russians got to savor a turkey shoot and what the heck, why not. If one side is struggling, then make the most of it.
I can't comment on the second scenario as I left after lunch to nurse my aching leg. I hope for the Germans sake that it was more rewarding for their kill-ratios. I did hear that the Russians won the second scenario and that there was then a third but I don't know how that turned out.
For a themed event, the players all seemed to make an attempt to blend into the character of WWII players and I didn't hear any complaints about game-play. That's always a plus. Rekkon and Gryphon were firmly in charge and ran the event competently if not on a schedule that would threaten Italian train workers jobs. I guess having to share the field with other groups (paintballers) and not having this as a private property site and with a staff and landowner that you also have to answer to will have built in delays. There was a longer than usual time to get the event started and a long lunch but I only mention these things as different from some other events where events flowed quickly and am not saying one way is better than another. Maybe with slower play, there is more time for socialization and so that's for each player to decide.
We did get some of the paintballers asking us for website information so maybe they are curious and will follow up. Who knows? My own view about themed events is that they seldom produce converts and that taking the time and energy to organize them could be better spent on a strict WWII event but we only do one of these yearly and should consider keeping it in the mix unless another option materializes (think Greenbush Historic park here). I mean, you can still be accepting of new players in partisan gear and equipped with WWII weapons so why not go that route? Just saying...
Thanks to those that attended however and came out on a Football playoff weekend to shoot at and with me. Thanks to Boris for his bringing Natasha again to the event and thanks to the Cairo clan for augmenting the Heer once again and making our numbers respectable. For those who couldn't or wouldn't show, maybe we'll see you at Pickerel in a month or so. One of my favorite of the year though I'm biased I know. Maybe we'll have some snow for you at that one. I should be all healed up by then.

All in all, a pretty good event. The weather was unbelievable for January 7th, upper thirties and not an ounce of snow on the ground. I was worried that "Old General Winter" was going to assist the Russians in this one and ended up realizing that they were aided greatly by "General Sunlight." The APOC field is loaded with bunkers, trenches, buildings, and cover of every kind. The first two hour battle was a "push" type action. The Germans attacked with 15 players and the armored car and had to push back 10 Russian defenders. We had unlimited respawns and they had a medic with limited respawns. This battle was grueling and I was plagued with vision problems (fogging up goggles) and more importantly, the sunlight was shining brightly in the attackers eyes. Target identification was difficult. I lost count of how many times I got hit but my guess is that I died about eight to ten times and throughout the entire battle I can't recall getting one kill. Very demoralizing but I'm guessing the Russians had a hell of a good time. They were due though and there is also some kind of satisfaction to be gained from continuing to fight the good fight so exhausted as I was, I kept plugging along. After this action I stood on the Russian side of the battlefield and looked at the field from their perspective with the sun to their backs. What a great view they had. It was a huge advantage in this game. The second action was after lunch and the Germans had to defend "Tin City." We had about ten or so respawns that we could use and the Russians had the armor and the unlimited respawns. This one ended in another Russian victory but I was satisfied with getting four kills to my two deaths. I got two fairly long range rifle kills in this one and that was the highlight of my day. I started this one out in the two story tower but soon drew the attention of 4-5 Russians and the armor. I held up the advance for 8-10 minutes but ultimately got bang killed by someone from the bottom of the structure. There were a lot of bb's flying around inside that tower. I didn't stay for the third short battle for the castle as I was pretty tired and wasn't psyched in advance for a third game but I was told the Germans won that one. Thanks to Rekkon and to Gryphon for organizing and running another fine MOA event. As Andre found out in December, these things take work, time, and effort and all players should remember that the organizers are making these events possible. Next up is Pickerel, WI. I'm pretty sure we'll have a snow event yet this winter. I will try to design some interesting skirmishes so mark your calendars.

Thanks to everyone that came out to the event, though the fantastic weather somewhat ruined the “Stalingrad” effect. Also thanks to Dave for a great field, Gryphon for helping run things and Troy for bringing the BA-64.
The first scenario had the Germans pushing to capture a series of flags from the firebase to the Stalingrad Tractor Factory (castle). The Russians had a limited number of respawns at each of these points while the German war machine had unlimited respawns. Russian victory would come by holding on long enough to run out the clock. Unfortunately (for the Germans), my token counts were calibrated for about twice the number of players we had, which greatly aided the defenders. The impromptu medic system did not help matters either. But neither of these points belittles the stubborn Russian defense. They were dug in like ticks, and it took us at least an hour to deplete their initial 10 tokens (plus another 10 medic tokens). Our initial German attack was broad-fronted but did not succeed in finding any soldiers in their armor. When it became clear that we were getting nowhere (even aided by smoke screens), I started focusing our infantry on the left flank while Natasha held down the right. We had cleared a few mines, but persistent panzerfaust fire forced Troy to keep his distance (never got killed though). I kept trying to lead assaults, but my PPSh quit feeding and close quarters is no place for a high powered rifle.
Eventually, Gryphon and I decided to get things moving so that we would not spend the entire time fighting in the same terrain. Most of the Russians fell back to tin city, and I pushed the Germans to pursue. This time I kept the rifleman to cover the direct the approach and threw all of my automatics into the buildings right of the road. I kept busy lobbing grenades into various structures. This strategy worked out well, and we quickly took the city (though I had already arranged for Gryphon to reduce the available respawn tokens). As the men pushed on the trenches, I grabbed Natasha and headed to the airball field where the mortars were stashed. The original intent had been to run a battery of them, but I was the only player available. I dropped 40-50 rounds on the trench field. No casualties were confirmed, but I unnerved at least one defender in the tower enough to get her to abandon her position. Some Russians attempted to flank along the south field edge, but Troy was vigilant. He made a pass with the armored car, but lost his only turret gunner. I had moved to cover and was able to blindside LZ as he tried to rush for the mortar. Natasha rumbled off to get a replacement, and I returned to the trenches to continue the assault. I got a good flank on the south trench, shooting down the length of it to pick off the enemy commander. By now time was dragging out and everyone was scattered, so we decided to call the scenario and break for lunch.
The second scenario had the Germans trapped inside their ever-shrinking Stalingrad pocket, surrounded by the Red Army. The original play was simplified to better fit the number of players and to avoid the groups of paintballers taking advantage of the mild weather. This time the Germans had 20 respawns and were facing endless Soviet hordes. It was not if we would all die; it was when. The thin numbers made it hard to watch all directions, and several times Russians got inside the city before being eliminated (*glares at LZ*). Ultimately the Wehrmacht held out for an hour, and the game provided several highlights for me. The first was lobbing at least four grenades at one hostile behind a berm west of the farmhouse. Every time I chucked an explosive, he would scramble out of range. I told the nearby friendlies that I was going to kill him or give him PTSD in the attempt. Finally one of my explosives got him to run away from cover, and when he stumbled and fell I hosed him with BB bullets. Next was our armored car kill. With limited infantry support, Natasha had not been very aggressive, but late in the game Troy started pushing a bit more. We had a panzerfaust and several panzerwurfmines in the area, but the intervening area was relatively open and covered by many enemy guns. Coordinating with the others, I threw a pea grenade as an initial distraction and rushed around the left side of our building with a wurfmine. At the same time our panzerfaust man went right to take his shot. I made it to cover, but was then picked off. The other guy died too, but his shot was true, leaving Russian armor burning in the street.
Returning to respawn, we discovered that no tokens remained. Live Germans did however, and they laid low. It took a while for the enemy to start cleaning house, but when they did it produced the funniest moment of the whole event. Three of our survivors were in one building near the waiting dead people. They shot at approaching Russians, who quickly took cover in an adjacent structure. Johan popped a grenade and lobbed it over. His quarry quickly ran out the back, but they need not have bothered as the explosive was a dud. In response, a Communist threw his own grenade into the German building. One of them screamed “Get out! Get out! Get out!,” and they all piled out the door. There was an explosion followed by “Get in! Get in! Get in!,” and back they went. Gunfire followed.
A few of us then proceeded to the castle for a quick final game. I have never been overly fond of “team deathmatch” in the castle, so we had the six remaining Russians defend the tractor factory while unlimited Germans (8 at a time) came at them. It was quick and violent. A final holdout in the keep tower gave us trouble, but I believe he was eventually encouraged to “surrender.”
Overall it was another good Stalingrad, but given the limited turnout (26) I am not sure I will run another one. There is a year to think on it.

For us Illinoisans, the drive out to Apoc was rather pleasurable at 2 hrs VS 6 over to neillsville. ME my younger brother and my cousin made our way to the field. although initial upset about Eye Protection i had no one to blame but myself. i suppose i should have payed more attention. my whole family were winners in the raffle, me and my brother winning Russian Soldbuchs and my cousin winning a Ball nade.
The First game began with great Enthusiasm but we became bogged down (on my end at least) rather quickly. one of the day players gun had broken its sear, and had to return to the parking lot to exchange for a new gun. my Mp40 decided that today would be a great chance to become Guy on a short bused. mostly it spat out bbs like a water fountain fairy other times they went soaring through the sky jumping up towards the heavens like angels. to add insult to injury, the goggles So graciously loaned to me by the E jacks, foged up like a son of a gun. after becoming blind i went off to the Field house to begrudgingly rent a paintball mask. once i had returned to the field i immediately went into combat. me and one of the E jacks ran into a previously occupied Russian bunker. he pulled a muscle and decided to not aggravate it. /we missed your mighty presence my friend/. I pushed up from my bunker onto a tin shack, and began screaming for reinforcements. i felt like i Had made a huge push at the time capturing vital ground, but if what reckkon says is what i interpreted it as, they were falling back anyways. and i was not the action hero i felt like. we pressed continuously and made it pretty far. i felt like we did a good jab. i exchanged fire with Gryphon in the trenches at one point and he shot me in the face. all in all, it was a very fun battle.
Lunch time.
Game 2 i was placed on the right flank of tin city behind a wooden berm. there with the Tanka K98 i switched to, i began plinking at the Russians moving in and out of the German perimeter. at one point i nailed Gryphon wit My sights ramped up to 13. he looked rather confused after my BB flew over to him. i think i hit 2 others from my long range position. after a time a Russian/American squad assaulted my position, my brother moved up to my position, and attempted a glorious grenade charge. i was too busy ducking BAR fire and trying to make it look like i was some where else to see how it turned out. at one point i was rushed by someone. my K98 shots missed and i threw a nade. he ran up and banged me just as i threw my nade. we killed eachother. unfortunately my position was captured my the enemy, and me and my brother occupied a house. dodging BAR fire and playing Duck shoot with him we distracted them as long as we could. i got peged in the arm and went to re spawn. my brother remained in the room and eventually took a nade. instead of running, he just sat there and took it like a, a... something. he died. me my brother and a SS German whose name i don't remember occupied a small shack there we waited in ambush poking at foolish Russians who exposed their flanks, and came close enough for bang kills. we waited in ambush hoping to make the time limit. the other SS guy wanted to Charge and die, but i told him we could have this if we remain resolute. for all i know reinforcements would arrive when the timer expires, or the Luftwaffe would bomb everything flat. so we would wait and try to live. eventuality a nade flew into the room. hoping to avoid my brother mistake of dieing like a mink, i shouted GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT! and once the nade exploded i saw no reason why the nice shack would not continue to provide us cover, and so, GET IN GET IN GET IN! we fought valiant against the Russians swarming out position. eventually while trading BBs with a Russian i got hit in the leg, and was annihilated. after my death then went the other SS guy. fowled shortly by my brother. soon we had all died. i was pleased to find my cousin had killed natsaha wit the panzer faust and Rekkon. I'm very proud of him.
game 3 STORMING THE CASTLE. a fun pootsie schooch defend and attack game. i got 2 nice kills and died 3 times, capturing the last Russian alive in a mutual agreement of lets not get our selves hurt. he surrendered to the promise of delicious canned bread. which i happily gave him ;D.
all in all i was very pleased with both the field and the games, and the players. i feel that these themed games attract fewer people and in fact may not bring in that many recruits. but this is my first small themed game. i frankly have no problem with people running around with UN SCOPED bolt action rifles in 40s era civi cloths, but all the ARs were kinda off. i Will attend the next game at this field.
i also made friends with many players i had not yet met such as Fritz Moos, whom recommended a web sight from which to buy hats, and allowed me to use his tools to fix one of my guns in the field. I Thank you Dearly for that sir.
