Whoo! Airborne all the way! I do SS too!
Most people only copy what their friends do, and what units are already where they live so it's not that they're noobs they just don't want to be in a unit nobody else is in. I agree with the weapons though, I bought an M1 Garand that was nuked by it's last owner and I fixed it up a really lot and it cost alot of money. And when I am German I built my own Kar98, I spent over $300 and it took 2 months! I always get pwned by smgs lol. But we need a company to make more rifles, custom made ones costs tons and I hate looking for rare ones that costs $500+ like we all used to have to do.

He's spot on on a lot of points. WAY too many SS and Airborne impressions in both airsoft AND blank fire. I went regular GI to one event, and I think I was the ONLY one! And I was REALLY in the 101st! lol! Sadly, most young kids and adults, like to wear the camo,so they choose SS. And EVERYBODY and their brother wants to be Easy Co. 506th due to Band of Brothers. And don't hit me with "its a free Country I can do what I want!". Yes, it is,and I do Airborne, both sides occasionally, and I have an SS impression. But I prefer to do regular German Heer at these events, and only did 101st once. Sadly people don't do research on their own,and just do whats popular, thats why you end up having events loaded with so called ELITE units. This happened VERY rarely on the real battlefields. Unfortunately,I don't see this trend changing anytime soon.

Seems like when folks wear sports garb they tend to wear jerseys from the NFL, NBA and Major League teams. People doing WW2 airsoft and reenacting are playing army. It is fantasy...make believe...If you're going to have a fantasy date Halle Barrie not Oprah. There of course is nothing wrong with Oprah but since we have the luxury of pretending...what the heck.
Clearly it is human nature to pretend to be the elite and lets face it both the axis and allies elite units have the cooler stuff. I absolutely agree that the common troops are vastly unrepresented and the weapons situation is sooooo much better than it was even 3 years ago but still has a long way to go.
Love your rant although in my opinion young man its going to get old really really fast. Hope if you follow up with more they will be few and far between. Thanks for posting however.
Incidently my primary impressions are straight leg Infantry US and my rifle is either a Springfield or a Garand. Leggings and Haversacks suck but I like the look.

Valid points. In a perfect world I suppose players would all start out as ordinary grunts and have to pass qualifications to enter elite units (Airsoft Jump School? ;D). Unfortunately we live in the real world. I just wish there were enough people around here interested in WWII so we could have some games. Do we really want to turn people off because they can't play out their Airborne/SS fantasies?

to be honest i agree with many of your points, far too many men I see have MP44 and so many men have thompsons or MP40. id reather see mosins and PPSHes. I'm SS and i have a K98. i would love to see more K98s and mosins on the field. but i see plenty of heer guys, and many of then do have k98s. mabye its just a mind set thing that, "if im SS i must have superior fire power"
btw the way where in MO do you live? any where near springfield?

Well when we get the affordable M1 Garand, they'll be allot more common and balance out the Thompsons.
@2nd bat: Do you wear the haversack in game?

Once the ICS M1 garand comes out, I will build on my US infantry impression. Idk why but it looks better to see a squad of paratroopers all with thompsons rather than a squad of infantry with all thompsons.

There were by design a somewhat higher percentage of Thomsons in Airborne units just as there was definitely a higher percentage of BARs in Ranger units. Obviously not the dominance represented on WW2 airsoft fields but that unfortunately is somewhat unavoidable until an affordable Garand is out and available. God I hope this ICS offering is a good one! I'm predicting that it will be somewhere around $250.00 or so due which is still more than a Thompson due to a lower volume of production and less competition but it's still going to a huge improvement in what we have available to us. ICS has a somewhat dubious reputation for functionality so hopefully that won't be an issue. (Fingers crossed, knocks on wood)

Well considering that the troops issued with Liebermuster surrendered in Austria and Czechoslovakia, his "impression" doesn't really require a weapon, he is good to go just like he is right now.
