Hey guys,
I have spoken with Capt. Zak and it has been ok'd for me to start a Volkssturm unit. I believe I have three guys (including myself, but am still looking for more. I will in a way act as the representative for the unit, but will be still attached to the 9th SS. I know a number of people mentioned that they will be bringing people to the next event that have either civies or no uniforms. This unit would be more than happy to take them in (as that would be its purpose). I believe that as it stands the German forces are out numbered anyways. Basically the unit will require that you have some form of period correct (or close to it) civilian impression. This is really not hard to do. It can be an old suit that looks like its from the 40's, a sports jacket, long dress jacket, old hat, etc. Goodwill is a good place to start. Also, it is important to wear either some form of boots or dress shoes, etc. Remeber that the main point is to avoid anything that could be seen as modern (i.e. gym shoes, etc.). Part of the reason this unit will be attached to the 9th SS is that the SS usually trained and led these units. They also often used SS collar tabs as well. I know Capt. Zak sells arm bands for the Volkssturm as well.
In effect this unit would be useful, because it will: give a more structured form to the unorganized partisans (pro-German that is), provide a place for new-comers, and be led by people with experience who can ensure that new players follow rules/learn the ropes. The unit would also serve the purpose of a jumping off point for those who are unsure of what unit they would like to join or if they just want to try out WW2 airsoft first. It would also take some stress off of already established units, because the player can go out and get together a fairly cheap outfit as opposed to barrowing more expensive equipment. Please PM me if you know of anyone that would be interested. Thanks!
Nick
