Just wear it.
There is no need to *age* uniforms.
In the 1940s it would have been new and clean. Granted some were used for training but the ones issued before drops were brand new as they were gas treated and smelt bad.
Given that the 101st airborne didnt (if we're honest) take part in that much of WWII wearing M42 suits they didnt have *time* for them to age much. Obviously ones you see in museums have had 70 years of storage and or sun bleaching.
Just wear it to an open day, dive around a lot, crawl through some mud etc... it will be more worn and damged than you would like before too long. At the very least just take it outside and leave it on the ground for a day, kick it round the garden etc.
Im no expert on wwii us airborne but I think the m42 was only worn for d-day right and the 101st only spent about 2 weeks in the field during the normandy campaign? There is no way its going to get 'aged' in two weeks

Dying it with tea I am guessing would make it darker. If I was going to age it I'd probably want to fade it. Either way you can try it if you want.

I will prbly use only 1 or 2 tea packets just to make it a tad darker. Than naturally age over time.

I think darkening it will make it look better if it works. I don't think it will make it look old though. Original uniforms are not as khaki as most reproduction uniforms I see. They are a tad more green looking and that is why I think the treatment might help.

I agree with Gadge. Just wear it around a little, maybe do some gardening in it, crawl through some weeds, run it through the washing machine a couple times. That should get the "new" off it sufficiently.
And he's right. The M42 uniform didn't see that much use in combat. Most of the paratroopers were issued M43 uniforms for Market Garden. Which is a bit of a shame. The M42 was a neat looking uniform. They just needed to use a darker color, or what would really have been great would have been if they made the jacket camouflage like the British Dennison smocks.

Running it in the washing machine is going to fade while you want to make it darker. Don't put it through the washer.

Well Im not doing 101st airborne who only used m42 for about a month. I usually do 82nd which used the m42 jump suit for about a year. I have the standard m42 jump suit. Also for movie purposes, aged/darker uniforms look better on film. I make several ww2 short films. www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7gT1hOfa2M

Nice job with the film. If I may suggest something though, try to keep the camera steady. Shaky cam is really over used.

Yeah i defently used it a little to much and with the youtube lag quality it makes it mega jumpy. I want to make a Korean War movie or a WW2 movie that takes place in the MTO.

Splotch on some darker paint. This was commonly done with both pathfinder units and regular parachute Infantry. Especially in the 82nd who universally felt the M42 was too light a shade to be effective. In Vietnam we darkened faded OD jungle fatigues with coffee grounds and black aviation paint in an effort to improve the camouflage.
there are lots of pictures of M42s that have been over painted. especially in the 82nd.
