Volkssturm impression help.

One of my team mates handed me a volkssturm armband the other day. His Idea was to make the most poorly equipped player in our unit wear it for events that take place in the last few months of the war.

I entertained the idea then looked at the Ludacris amounts of random surplus that I have and figured I could alter some stuff and play around with things to make a semi Legit impression.


This is what I would like to work with.

Head Gear.
Beat up Fedora
Very beat up and dented M-35
Or a hand made in Italian Camo M-43 Cap

Tunic/Shirt.
depending on the weather at the event. Either an old button down brown shirt (as I have heard that some units were equipped with SA gear covered with a very old olive drab sweater vest.
My other option would maybe to take a swiss Wool Tunic, remove the shoulder board straps and change out the buttons. Could possibly be from a unit that was formed of an administrative organization that had uniforms, railway, postman ect ect.

I also have a large great coat from the 40's or 50's. My only qualm with wearing that is I would probably not feel a hit from someone with it.

Pants

Either M40 or a pair of post war swiss wool ski pants.

Boots

Probably a very and this is the key word ratty battered semi ripped jack boots. Or I suppose I could go to a thrift store and find some old dress shoes....


Webbing and belt with the all the fixings

Either a post war Czech Sam brown or regular Heer Belt
A 1 cell K98 ammo pouch with a Russian PPSh drum mag pouch on the other side to hold a speed loader or some other items in.

On the back would have either a postman's breadbag + canteen or a Tropical Breadbag +
canteen.


If Y straps are in use would it be to outlandish or improper to have an Aframe to hold the mess kit a Tan Zelt and assault bag? I figured the Tan Zelt would be more fitting for a rag tag force.

Weaponry would consist of a Bar 10 -k98 conversion and a Panzerfaust or 2.

To top it all off I have a small bucket full of brick dust that I will coat it in. To make it more authentic.

So how accurate would that be?
To Outlandish or what not?
Thoughts Concerns?


Also where could one get a bike that I could mock up to look like a German ww2 bike for under 500$ If I could get that I would gladly ride around the battle field with 2 faust strapped to the front looking for targets of opportunity.


I am also awaiting "Hitlers Last Levy" to arrive. It is a book regarding the volkssturm and I hope it is not 50$ flushed down the drain.

I would replace the ppsh drum holster and put stuff in the breadbag, and use 2 K98 Pouches.
It seems accurate as the Volkssturm were the "Peoples Army" and they were literally given a weapon and sent to defend Berlin.

The sad thing is i'm one of those people who brings repro rations, bread, esbit stove ect in his bread bag. The ppsh drum pouch perfectly holds bar 10 mags, + speed loader. The single K98 pouch holds a dead rag.

You have a long list comrade and there are a few options you could go with. Volkssturm ranged from civilian clothing to Wehrmacht issue clothing, WWI kit with civilian garb, and much more. There were official Volkssturm units and "thrown together" units.

Going from your list I'd stick with a civilian impression.
Fedora or M35 helmet, with civilian shirt/overcoat, dress shoes, cotton or wool trousers which will be another Goodwill buy.
Ammo pouches; just stick with the K98's, and hold the rest of your needed gear in the breadbag or trouser/coat pockets. .
Leave the y-straps on the side as well as the zelt, you do not need them for this impression.
Carry your K98 conversion and or your Panzerfaust.

You should be set to go as far as accuracy.
Your not being outlandish at all and asking good questions, but I'd hold off on the brick dust just makes things messy.
I can't help with period bicycles. I've been trying to talk my father-in-law out of a late 1930's early 1940's bike for three years but he wants way too much for it, like a bad episode of American Pickers.
If the book turns out to be good, post a review.

Forgot about your Pockets Lol. Just stuff 3 or 6 bar10 mags in your pockets and use 2 k98 pouches,

what about one of those A frame bags? I'm used to carring all 6 of my bar10 mags in my breadbag, along with tools

Since ive added the last Levy to my stack of bathroom reading I figured I'd do an update.
So more or less going for a Levy 2 impression.

Also going to go with the Single Cell K98 pouch to hold the dead rag, the Yugo M44 pouch will stand in as I forgot the single cell + ppsh pouch at my house (those are both common after doing a hell of a lot of research regarding volkssturm as they were issued fair amounts of Russian Gear that was liberated during the early stages of Barbarossa). My pockets will already be full of Pocket rockets and 12 gram co2's for the faust of course. I can fit a large speed loader + 3 bar 10 mags in the ppsh drum pouch.

Jack boots
Old gray/tanish pants
one of my grandfathers old button down shirts.
Old beat up fedora
Swiss Tunic. (trying to look I came from a unit that was half decently supplied, a lowly govt employee or something like that) Still need to replace the buttons and sun bleach it a bit.
Real Steel 43 K98 (looks so much nicer than my bar 10 conversion)
Heer Belt with breadbag, canteen, mess kit, tan zelt ( Tan/ Gray zelts were given away like candy to tons of organizations) and rubber bayonet.
CDI customs Panzerfaust
+ A volkssturm Arm Band, So the Soviets don't execute me to death.

Mess Kit will hold 3-4 milsim labs rounds (for the panzerfaust)
Breadbag holds reproration, esbit stove, butter dish (for cheese) bag of bb's
