I was wondering what the limit is for creativity, for lack of a better word. Could I have an engagement between USMC and 12th SS groups? There are limited official units in NoVA so it would be hard to find a lot of people with impressions.

But of course! I see nothing wrong with fantasy engagements. My friend is 352nd on the west while I'm in the GD on the east, but we fight side by side because we can! Hell, what makes it more interesting is back story, normally you'd give a brief description of the battle (Like USMC VS. IJA [I think[ at Iwo Jima), so just make up something interesting for the USMC v SS. I mean, no need to avoid playing against each other just because you are on different theaters or whatever.

I think it should be kept western front vs. western front. marines shouldn't be fighting ss. if you want to do a "what if" game, youd might as well have everyone with night vision vampires on mp44s, and leibermuster sets. which "could" be an interesting game, however.

I agree that while beggars cant be choosers and a goofball ww2 event is better than no WW2 events I would have trouble getting excited about a pairing that is as off as Marines vs SS. The inevitable posted pictures would draw more scorn within the living history community (which we are a part of) than praise, even if the impressions were outstanding. This sort of reaction will harm WW2 airsoft more than it will help. This of course is just my opinion and if you think you can pull such a thing off, get attendance and most importantly have fun doing it, knock yourself out!

When I first got into ww2 airsoft I had a USMC uniform, (I'm assuming you do to because you mentioned the USMC vs. SS) and I have never been able to use that uniform anywhere. I had to spend twice as much money on US army (82nd airborne) gear than I did on the Marine gear, because there aren't any Pacific battles

It's your hobby do what you will as long as you are studying history. A plausible what if would be a small group of SS body guards for a high ranking Nazi escape to a pacific island due to being survivors of a UBoat mishap. On that island there is an airfield with a platoon of Marines there. The SS want to take the airfield and escape via a plane or want to get to a radio were they can call for help. I mean it's probably not going to be applesauce loads of people at this event. It's kinda plausible but never actually happened. It's like historical fiction. Treat it as such and enjoy yourself.

Thanks a bunch, sounds like a good idea. I'll work something out with the marines.

If you ever get an event together with the Marines in it let me know, I have a lot of friends who have WWII USMC gear. We ended up having to switch to 82nd ABN because there weren't any Japanese to fight. By the way, the Marines banned companies to make their uniforms and gear with their logos on it, take a look at this: www.atthefrontshop.com/searchresults.asp?cat=107

I wouldn't mind an alternate reality game, as long as there was a backstory. (Like if Germany did go forward with Operation Sealion, captured Britain, and was still allied with Russia. That situation in itself would have drawn forces from the pacific for an invasion of occupied Britain. Without Britain as a staging point for American air operations and ground forces, and Rommel tearing through North Africa, an American Invasion of Britain would be a top priority! Or if Germany had mustered the strength to invade the North American East coast! I'm sure then any and all American forces would be put into action to defend.) In these cases, USMC and SS may have come in contact. Although this is only speculation of a "What If" conflict, I still see gaming alternate reality games as an interessting way to ponder these possibilities. Although we may be a part of the living history community, I still think we have a say in who we get to shoot at, at least until we get more IJN and IJA counterparts to battle with.

Just my $.02 worth. I see no problem with setting up an alternate history scenario if you're clear that it's alternate history and you stay more or less within the bounds of plausibility. The marines were fully committed in the Pacific, but it is within the realm of plausibility that, given a more favorable situation in the Pacific and the marines being specialists in amphibious warfare, some small marine units might have been sent to Europe as specialist troops for missions requiring their skills. In reality, of course, that's what the Rangers were formed for, but with a small tweak it could have been marines assaulting Pointe du Hoc on D-Day. You could create scenarios involving raids on Norway or in the Mediterranean that would be plausible.

Hmm I hadn't thought of bringing the marines to us, as opposed to coming to them.

The best way to do this is what Medal of Honor Rising Sun did in it's story, a bunch of high ranking German officers were sent to the Pacific (Signapore in the story) to meet with a Japanese General. During the meeting (which took place in a huge palace...) an English SOE agent who was stationed in the southeast Pacific was transfered to Signapore and assassinated the 8 German officers during the meeting

Definitly, but it's sad that it's impossible to play now. Especially because the new Xbox and PS4 next year won't accept any games from the older systems.
Best part is when the SOE agent Bromley drops from the air duct and sprays the officers with bullets, while he was duel wielding a sten mkII and mkV

Actually, the USMC didn't ban anybody from making their uniforms. They just require a license to do so with the EGA and USMC stamped/embroidered/etc. on them. ATF says they are working on getting the license so that "wannabe jarheads", such as myself (permanent medical disqualification stopped me dead in the water) can finally get the uniforms/gear we so desperately need/want. I don't know if WWII Impressions has a license or not, but they're still making USMC stuff.
