here's a WW2 story for you....my wife and i just bought a house....along with it came garage/workshop..as i'm cleaning a lot of the former owners stuff out of it i'm finding all sorts of things jammed into odd areas...one of the items i found was a very dry rotted Dopp kit stuck up in the rafters, jammed in a corner....when i went to move it ,ammo started falling out....didn't surprise me since i had been finding ammo in little corners several times.....that was until the 13mm AA round hit my work table....carefully taking it out i emptied all the contents of the Dopp onto the table...along with some souvenirs from australia....i had the following...
a 6.5mm,several 7.7mm ,2 13mm rounds and a 20mm HE round.....all live...also in the haul i saw these....
human teeth that i can only assume are Japanese....given the nature of the other artifacts.....since why would a US guy bring back US teeth?......guess i can figure at some point the former owner's wife told him to stick that crap out in the garage what with the live ammo and teeth.....teeth were a fairly common bring back item...i've seen them in other folk's collections...just didn't expect to find them in my shed...
already spoke with the japanese consulate here in atlanta and am waiting to here back from their cultural attache about the procedure to repatriate the remains for proper internment....going to talk with the local sheriffs dept about what to do with the 20mm and 13mm round since they are live and have HE rounds in them...was going to keep the 7.7 and 6.5 rounds for myself...just a fairly odd set of items to find in that situation..
