I know there is another thread about this but it is extremely old and rather inactive so yeah, just thought i'd start an updated thread.
A rather useful forum for Japanese reenacting, mostly ww2 stuff but they do have some ww1 stuff there as well
imperialjapanesereenacting.prophpbb.com/
This is a pretty interesting way to go about a japanese kit should british gear be more valible to you for whatever reason
www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/japanese-basic-impression/
This is a fairly cheap gear list but it is all replica and will facilitate a basic IJA soldier
Belt set - www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-ARISAKA-JAPANESE-BELT-CARTRIDGE-BOX-FROG-SET-/120997871843?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2c0900e3
The belt set smells awful when you first get it so yeah, air it out for several days.
Cheap Helmet - www.worldwarsupply.com/cart/Japanese-Army-Helmet The chinstrap is too short to be properly tied so yeah
Uniform I got - www.hikishop.com/wwii-ija-tropics-23sleeves-pants-with-collar-tabs-p-97.html
Puttees - www.hikishop.com/repro-ww2-ija-japanese-field-wool-leggings-puttee-p-72.html
Canteen and Bread Bag - www.hikishop.com/wwii-japanese-ija-canteen-bread-bag-gloves-set-repro-p-131.html
When ordering from hiki, order everything you need at one time, shipping sucks but expedited or w/e is the way to go lest your stuff gets lost in china for months.
funny hat - www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-JAPANESE-ARMY-SOLDIER-FIELD-WOOL-CAP-HAT-WITH-HAVELOCK-NECK-FLAP-32806-/321344852928?pt=US_Costumes&hash=item4ad1a553c0
tabi's with socks - cooleastmarket.com/collections/tabi-boots-jikatabi/products/low-top-tabi-boots
Measure your shoe size properly least you buy a size too big
Should be everything, only other thing i would suggest is the oiler from hikishop and the chinstraps from there as well but thats up to you
this set up(assuming you buy specifically from these links comes out to about 294.2 without the shipping from hikishop. As i stated, their shipping is expensive so again, i suggest buying all the hikishop stuff at one time if you re going that route.
You can skip on the helmet but that is up to you, you'll save about 60 or so dollars but yeah.
This is NOT who and where you have to buy from, if you find cheaper, go for it but be aware, you get what you pay for. The hat from ebay is a pretty poor repo imo but it does it's job.
In terms of footwear, if you have low cut german boots or US boots(not the paratrooper ones) you should be fine, they will do the trick. If you don't have those, i suggest buying the tabi's i linked up above, there may be cheaper ones but make sure they are the low cut otherwise they can look funny and may not fit properly under the puttees.
If you want to go all the, you can buy these www.civilwarboots.com/store_WWII.asp but as you can see, they are extremely expensive.
Now you may say
"Hey stuka, i like to run at the enemy for lolz at times and i wouldn't mind making a japanese kit but i don't have the money for all this right now"
Well thats fine, that was what happened with me, it has taken several months for me to get the basic look down properly(for the most part considering that i am white and don't have a proper undershirt).
My suggestion
1. get some khaki or tan bdu's
2. from there get the belt set and the hat(or visa versa).
3. from there i suggest getting the tabi's and puttees(or order everything you need from hiki at the same time if you can =P).
4. From there i suggest getting the breadbag and canteen set(there are cheaper alternatives but again, you get what you pay for).
5. Last part is the uniform, once you've saved up for that you'll be pretty much golden.
Again, you don't have to do it this way, or buy from the links provided this is just suggestion and how i more or less did it.
If you have any question feel free to ask, i'll try to help and once efrimann has a blueprint or what have you for some arisaka's the Japanese Red Tide will be ready to conquer the pacific =P
