Hi Everyone,
I've been looking around scouring the internet for a proper guide regarding how to turn VFC/Matrix/Snow Wolf/AY etc. BAR magazines into mid caps but came up short.. There are 2 reasons for me doing this.
1. I simply prefer mid caps. I find winding mags every few shots laborious and as we all know, they rattle like hell. Especially when they're tinny like these ones.
2. Out of the 10 high caps I have, only 1 actually fed AT ALL and even that one stopped feeding eventually. I'd had enough.
Tools required: BAR Hi Caps, M16VN Mid Caps (I used DBOYS/BOYI), Small Philips Screw Driver, Small Hex Key (2mm I think?), a Dremel, Hacksaw/Hacksaw blade and of course, eye protection!
Step One - Remove the screw from the bottom of the BAR magazine and remove the lower plate. All of my plates got caught on the winding wheel and damaged them a little. It's okay, I probably won't use them.
Step Two - Remove the High Capacity Mechanism from the BAR magazine.
Step Three - Cut the metal bar out from the top of the BAR magazine. I'll explain why further on. (Cut through both sides of the bar that the hacksaw blade is resting on).
It should look like this:
Step Four - Grab one of your M16VN Mid Caps. I was lucky enough to already have some DBOYS M16VN Mids, I was even luckier when I realised that the internals were contained within a plastic casing similar to that of the high capacity mechanism we just removed, not just a spring and follower. This is key.
Step Five - Dremel the side lips off the top of the M16VN mechanism. You do not need to remove the lip on the front or the back, just the sides. Just a warning, mine is not pretty. But boy does it work! NOTE: If you are a younger player, please ask a parent to do this step for you. Whoever does it should wear eye protection as I had hot plastic shards flying left right and center.
This should be the end result:
Step Six - Wiggle the M16 magazine internals into the bottom of the BAR magazine shell. Then slide the bottom plate over. You can poke your screw driver through the holes in the bottom plate until the hole is said plate lines up with the screw hole in the bottom of the M16 magazine.
Step Seven - It may be necessary to push down on the metal plate that surrounds the feeding tube at the top of the magazine. It's hard to see in the photo, but one side has been depressed with a flat blade screw driver, the other has not.
Step 8 - Enjoy your BAR Mid Caps!
If you have any questions or would like more/better pictures, I'd be happy to supply them.
I'd also like to apologise for the size of the pictures and for creating a new thread when the was already one in existence. I did not want to revive a nearly three year old thread.
