The Battle of the Bulge airsoft game here in the Northwest last weekend (12/11/05) was a big success ;D We had 20 players+ guests. The games where exciting and the overall WWII atmosphere was phenomenal. I think it was a big step forward for realistic WWII airsoft in the Northwest and hopefully will inspire others around the world. John (remf / 2nd bat) has written an excellent after action report at www.battlesim.com/ The game was put on by Hellmutt and Battlesim, They did a wonderfull job, many thanks. Here are a few pictures: John (2nd bat) decorates the troops. Schmitty and Hellmutt in a captured jeep. Yankee mg team (M1919 not airsoft yet but will be soon) Schmitty with Marushin k98 Schmitty

And the 4th from the left I believe- And you can see that the poor G.I. that is the first on the left has the proverbial 'Thompson-broken front outer barrel syndrome' but is still soldiering on! "You go to war with the weapon you have, not the weapon you want or wish to have" -Donald Rumsfeld -G

Love the aged pictures!! Nice job !! As you can tell (since no one has eye protection) These pictures where all taken before the games. I didn't take any during the games, too busy fighting off the allied assault. There was an actual photographer there who took hundreds of pictures. I loaned his son my Thompson in exchange he will send me copys of the photos so I will post some more when I get them.
The Temperature was right around freezing to begin with and close to 40 F at the highest. I didn't see anyone actually playing with a gas garand. (John would probably know more than I about that). I used a gas pistol (mauser c96) and it worked fine despite the cold temp.
Guinness: I don't think anyone had a broken thompson barrel. I had one gun malfunction. Mp44 aeg died early in the first game. I took it apart yesterday and found the piston had broken. It was a Systema polycarb area 1000 piston (the black one). That is the third one I have had break in exactly the same place in three different guns. I won't be using those anymore.

the m1919, that not airsoft, is it decommissioned or is it working, (blank) it would be cool if it could fire blanks just for the sound, giving some ambiance

I'm sure you are right Schmitty- however I submit as evidence........ hmmmmm broken Thompson barrel, or Allied 'Secret Weapon' ?? -you be the judge ;D Yeah mine did the same thing because there is just that 1/4 inch by 1 inch piece of zinc metal connecting the front barrel assembly to the reciever and like a dumbass I leaned it against a desk and it slid right over and hit the floor..... I didn't think to paint the BB barrel black though ) I guess that could just be with the foregrip removed, but why would someone do that? -G

Guinness: That's hilarious, good eye!! I didn't even notice that all day, although come to think of it I do recall seeing a Thompson that looked somehow different but it did still have the outer barrel with front sight just no front handgrip. It must have been a previous repair (didn't happen that day) as these pictures are from before the first game. I believe that was a gun that was rented from Hellmutt.
The M1919 belongs to John (remf, 2nd bat) It is a deactivated real one, John and I where discussing the various ways to make it airsoft, He has some good ideas.

Must be it then- The barrel actually has that set screw on the top to hold it on, so if the connection piece (like mine shown in the pic) is broken, maybe he had the outer barrel on just w/o the foregrip to keep the weight down? dunno only Helmut can solve this mystery -G

Answers to several questions here. I had my AEG garand (fourth one on the left above) and used it all day (easily 8 or 9 kills, perhaps even more) I'm still waiting for the second set of garand wood bits to modify another M-14. It worked great. Some very long range eliminations. I didn't even attempt to use the Marushin Gas Garand but had it there for pictures. A couple of guys in my element had Hudson grease guns and I loaned them some spare magazines. One was in my four man e&e detachment in the early phase of the day when we were trying to exfiltrate our way back thru "German lines". He didn't fire often but when he did he seems to do so to good effect. I loved the sound of it and the chop chop chopping of the blow back. I also had a guy with a Marushin 8mm carbine (one magazine) who obviously rarely shot but played well.
The 30 Cal is deactivated and will be an airsoft gun before the spring. The Thompson you spotted for some reason didn't have the front foregrip and I noticed it several times thru the day and meant to ask why. One of mine broke years ago just where yours did from the stress of the sling. I made it into an M-1928 after seeing Schmitty's.
I love the grainey black and white effect with white ink notations. Nice job! looking forward to seeing more shots of the event.
