A short but interesting video by Nock Moran, presenting some facts about the Battle of the Bulge. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A6D-NqyObwOne that I was not aware of was how the Germans exploited Monty's infamous speech. Monty gave a press conference on January 7, reading a prepared statement that had been approved by Eisenhower's staff. The initial problem was that, while factually accurate, Monty's style was condescending and rubbed some Americans the wrong way. What really dropped the turd in the punchbowl was that the German psychological ops people created a fake BBC broadcast that distorted Monty's remarks to make it sound like he was taking credit for winning the battle, and it was believed by a lot of people.

The fake BBC broadcast was extremely effective as Eisenhower was furious upon hearing it. According to my father who was present it was by far the angriest he had ever seen him. Ike literally decided once and for all it was " him or me" and was prepared to forward the request to both Marshall and Churchill. The German propaganda used excerpts (somewhat taken out of context) to emphacize Montys peevish tone and annoying sense of self worth. He, in hindsight probably had aspergers.
