#1. The Red arrow division and in the PTO I think New Guinea and later Leyete. That's a guess.
#2. The Triple Nickel was an all black airborne regiment and they were considered unworthy of combat back in the heavy discrimination days of the US military. They were attached to the forest service and fought fires in the NW caused by Japanese incendiary balloons. They were the original smoke jumpers and served spectacularly in that role.
#3 Bren, BAR and M1919A6 (Just off the top of my head) but probably wrong
#4 Vavutu on his way to Rabaul. The longest sortie raid of the war and top secret as it was critical that the Japanese not learn that we had cracked their code.
#5 A German rocket made to make remote control attacks on B-17s. Complete guess. Maybe an anti ship remote controlled rocket.
#6 Either Thailand or Burma (Guess)
#7 A jeep mounted with railroad wheels.
#8 A slavic virgin above the age of 11.
#9. Sweinfort ? (ball bearings) or Stuttguard
#10 Their super warm searling lined flight boots and cold weather clothing.
#11 I'm sure you're referring to Dieppe as it was a predominently Canadian landing and they later succeeded in landing at Juno
#12. A make believe Major complete with theater tickets from a show at Piccadilly He was actually a deceased bowry bum. They made him up to be a victim of apparent drowning in an air crash at sea. He had a security briefcase handcuffed to his wrist with completely bogus plans for the invasion of Greece. He was dropped off the coast of Spain where MI6 knew the Spanish would turn him over to the Germans.

[glow=red,2,300]spitfire:[/glow] yes, Dieppe is correct.
[glow=red,2,300]kippy smi7h:[/glow] I said Europe, not specifically Normandy. The Canadians were meant to open a second front to draw some of the Germans away from the Russian front. Their landing failed and they suffered heavy casualties.
[glow=red,2,300]2ndbat:[/glow] 1. Correct. Actually, most of the volunteers of the 32nd were from my home town. They even named our school mascot after them.
2. Correct.
3. Yep, those will do. You could also have the M41, the Fusil Mitrauilleur 1924/29 and 1931 (French, obviously), The Vickers-Berthier LMG, or the Degtyerev DP.
4. True
5. No, not quite.
6. it was Burma. Good guess. They were sent to harass Japanese supply lines, and troop movements for a scheduled British invasion. The invasion was scratched, but their commander persuaded his superiors to let them stay and act as a guerrilla force.
7. No.
8. No.
9. No.
10. No.
11. Yes, I was referring to Dieppe.
12. Thats right. This was codenamed Operation Mincemeat. They found a corpse and dressed him in a Royal Marines uniform. They planted false documents on him and dumped him by submarine off the Spanish coast. It was to fool the Nazis into thinking the Allies would attack through Greece. Hitler fell for it while Mussolini, urged Hitler that it was not to be trusted. German troops were moved in Greece, allowing the Allies to attack Sicily.
Alright, we now have only, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 left.

Guitarmaster: 5. Incorrect, you've probably confused it with the M42 jacket made for the paratroopers. You're on the right track though.

well as for #5... GM...maybe your friend didn't understand the question or is uninformed..the V42 stiletto was the knife specifically issued to the FSSF.....pics below.. though i don't know how he could miss something this FSSF specific if he does FSSF... #12-Maj. William Martin of the Royal Marines.the real identity of the man used for the ruse will probably never be known since his anonymity was part of the family's deal for the Crown using the body for this OP.He died from chemical pnumonia from ingesting rat poison. recently there has been some speculation that the man may have been a welsh alchoholic vagrant named Glyndwr Michael.but the truth will probably never be known....

Savoy: Correct. The V42 Stiletto was a knife issued to the FSSF. It was hand made, so no two were the same. It was sopposed to be thrusted horizontally, hence the thumb mark on the blade.
Answers will be posted at 2000 (that's 8 'o clock civilians!). We still need 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Alright, answers are a little late but better late than never, right? 1. Red Arrow Division; New Guinea 2. First Black parachute regiment and first smoke jumpers. 3. The Bren, BAR, and M1919A6, M41, the Fusil Mitrauilleur 1924/29 and 1931 (French, obviously), The Vickers-Berthier LMG, or the Degtyerev DP. 4. Vavutu 5. The V42 Stiletto was a knife made for the FSSF 6. Burma 7. The Elephant. They practically work for peanuts. 8. A shot down Luftwaffe plane 9. Essen 10. Their Iron Crosses 11. Dieppe 12. "Major Martin" was a corpse planted with false invasion plans for Greece. There. Hope you had fun and learned a thing or two. Wade out.

#7 Elephants. Hmmm I think you're talking about the forgotten theater India/ China Theater which was not technically part of the PTO. (I should have gotten it anyway.) Great quiz.
