Hey guys, I just recieved my cybergun branded M1A1, apparently the only difference from the CYMA version being that it has full trades. I must say, as much as I hated haivng to get something branded by cybergun, this gun so far has actually impressed me quite a bit. Upon receiving the box (which was shipped from kapowwe) i opened it to find it double styrene wrapped. It's nice to see that everything was tightly packeged however my biggest gripe with that is that there seemed to be some water thatw as in the box and the styrene plastic held it in so there is kind of a musty moldy smell and quite a few areas in the box were farily damp. Any blemishes it left on the can probably be wiped off when I get home from work. Aside from that everything else was more than I expected. Simple instruction sheet came in plain english with very good pictorial instructions, a speedloader (that actually seems to work better than my marui one), cheapo sling (you can throw that away lol), low end battery & charger, unjamming rod, and of course the infamous plastic magazine. The gun comes with a large plastic 2 piece "ring" fixed to the end of the barrel instead of paint. This is very nice because it makes it simple to remove it (i know you shouldnt but I hate the damn red paint/plastic) by prying it apart. The magazine is actually very solid and not at all what I would expect from a plastic mag, it kind of reminds me of M16 MAG mags in how solid they are despite being plastic. It looks like it will take a bit of break in to get the mags to slide in real well. I tried a few times and they fit VERY tightly and I found myself trying not to slam it home so as not to damage the hop unit. The build on the gun is really more than I hoped for. Yes there are the occasional seams but for 179 bucks what can you expect? The wood actually looks better than the TM I think and feels very solid. The buttplate is also very solid as well and makes a nice click when you turn out outwards to access the battery compartment. My original plans for a vertical grip look like they are on hold as the grip screw seems to go straight up and down instead of at an angle as would be needed for the grip. Ill have to find out more on that later when I get home though. Finally, the body. This is where I really got excited. The entire upper receiver and barrel are all metal (in case you didnt know ) and feel very solid especially since it mates with the lower very tightly. As far as I can tell so far, there arent any wobbles to be had here. The trades are very clean looking and the cocking handle really does make a better sound than the TM. As far as performance, I cant really say as I cant fire it here at work, lol. I did dry fire it just to see if it worked. Even the thought the battery didnt really have much juice it did cycle through a few semi auto trigger pulls and you can really tell that it must be shooting around 350 because you get a solid snap and the gun rocks a bit. Ill have to test it later on a full battery, but so far it sounds solid. Overall I felt this was one of the best airsoft purchases I have made in quite a while. As sad as it is to say I think TM has been pretty well trumped on this gun. Granted there are a few places for improvement, however the barrel problem has been fixed, the gun shoots 350 stock, and the price is less than half (depending on where you go, of course) what TM's is. So thumbs up to CYMA and their great M1A1. Ill try and post pictures later. PS: Did anyone else receive their from kapowwe yet? EDIT: The trades are actually a little disappointing now that I get a closer look at them. Looks like they are painted on instead of actually engraved/cast like the TM. Since Im a trade-whore I guess this kinda takes it down a 1/2 notch lol

I just got mine today as well. (Friday the 13th) This is a full two weeks plus later then the promised "June" delivery which I had anticipated. What I didn't expect was that others including local retail stores would have them well before I did. Oh well. Mine does have the trades and I guess that should be somehow cool. They look fine and aside for the addition of "Made in China" appear spot on for the Auto-Ordnance Worchester, Massachusetts Thompson Corporation It also says Thompson Sub Machine Gun, Caliber 6mm M1A1 with a serial number and it also says US Property and has the Famous Thompson Bullet trade mark so if that floats anyones boat, there you go!
As mentioned above, the build quality is quite good and as mentioned in many ways better then the Marui. Certainly comparable. The magazine is extremely tight and will take some wearing down to work in. Marui mags fit and work fine in their place.
As mentioned the sling is a throw away OD nylon modern style sling. The sling hardware is metal and attached with phillips head sccrews which though invented were not used on US weapons during the war. (Nit picking, I know) The rear site is very very simple with a sliding and pop elevating peep site that is no where near as cool as the high quality ladder site in my M1928. To be honest I never noticed it until I did a side by side comparison.
The box says it shoots at 425 FPS and with 12 gram BBs it just might. With Airsoft Elite 20 grams it shot 345 to 352 right out of the box. The hop up is okay but not great. My Marui shoots at 284 to 287 FPS. The motor sounded solid and reassuring and the ROF was quite impressive. The gun comes with a mini battery and mini connections which is too bad and the stock is set up for the mini battery unlike the Marui which is designed for a full sized. It makes for a more solid stock but obvious down sized inner compartment compared to the Marui. I'll go with a large tamiya clip and make room for a full sized 8.4 battery.
I'm extremely impressed. I;m sure the orice will dip from the initial offering price of $179.00 and ones without trades seem to be in the $155.00 range delivered which will also probably dip. Not like we don't already see a lot of Thompsons on the WW2 airsoft field already but it beats the heck out of burlap wrapped AKs and M-4s!
Come on affordable AEG Garands and and AEG Carbine! Hooah!

My brother just got his today from kapowwe! Its completely awesome. I had already known that it shoots 350 or so because I chronoed my friend's. I have to say, I think it out does the TM. I believe thats a good sign for airsoft that guns are getting better and cheaper.
I don't care what people say about Cybergun, but this is fine piece of work for $179.
Thats right, bring on the cheaper Garands, 98s and Carbines!

Yeah, I can also confirm what John said about the fps being at 330-355. I chronoed it today and it worked quite well. My only gripe was that I needed a 10.4v battery to really get it going at a decent ROF. Has anyone else experienced the same issue and do you think it could be corrected by chainging the wiring or any internal parts in the gearbox?

I thought the rate of fire with an 8.4 was fine. In fact with my Marui I cleared out the stock to accomodate the somewhat wider Radio Shack 7.2 Volt 300 Mah NiHm batteries that i prefer to use. It slows the ROF down which seems more Thompson like to me. You can somewhat positively effect your ROF by optimizing your connections using a more efficient contact such as the larger Tamiya clip or better still a Dens contact which my son is a huge advocate of.

I just got in six of the CYMA spare magazines from RSOV. They are plastic of course and like the magazine that came with the gun are plastic and a very tight awkward fit at first. The mounting spine simply needs to be worn with use or lightly filed so it easily goes on and off. (The Thompson due to it's dated design is difficult enough) I plan to shorten them to 20 round box length following Tommy Gunners approach . I also am going to take three of them and use them as internals to create low cap mags for my custom AEG Grease gun. I have three actual Grease gun mags to use as outer shells and to work will simply have to reverse mount them inside the grease gun shells.
I've been wanting to do both projects for about a year but couldn't bring myself to tear down an expensive Marui Low Cap magazine. These CYMA low cap magazines cost me about $12.00 a piece delivered.

I just got mine and WOW...........it was far more than I had hoped for. I did skirmish with the ol' tommy, and it is not half bad. My only problem that I can see is the rate of fire.....which leaves some to be desired, to slow in my opinion. The build quality is great and the wood looks pertty, although the seems are quite noticable.
Look=9/10 Feel=9/10 (handle a tad loose) Internals=8/10 (needs lube, and the bushings are plastic, not the said metal) Skirmishability=9/10 (little heavy, but who cares. ROF, little slow, and the loading.....new clip......takes a while)
GREAT, GREAT GUN........and beats the crap out of mp5's wrapped in burlap. WORTH EVERY CENT.
P.S. DO NOT BUY FROM EVIKE!!!!! They shipped it without the instructions in a plain brown box.....not cybergun packaging......and I dont if anyone else did, but no bbs came with it either and they sent the wrong charger.

That is not Evike's fault sir, these Thompson's are being imported from various places in China, lots of stuff either isn't compatible, or isn't the right thing you need here. I've only had exemplary sevice from Evike, along with every airsofter I know...Literally... So try not to spread that they are horrible, please. -Dakota

Many if not most of the Chinese imported AEGs that come with a battery and charger will come with a charger whos plugs are not compatible with our US configured outlets. If you get one that is consider it a blessing. Also realize that the free battery that comes with most of the Chinese guns are very poor quality with little capacity to hold a lengthy charge. Plan on buying both a spare battery and a charger. A quality charger is a good invetsment anyway as is a spare battery even when they are high quality.
Without proper liscensing if an exporter shipped your gun with the Thompson logos anywhere in the packaging and it was noticed by US Customs your gun would have been seized. Putting it in the plain brown box without the trade marks allowed you to get it for presumably a lower price then the authorized CYMA gun.

I'm wondering that to, non of the normal HK shops I use have the Cybergun Thompson, I'm thinking of buying one just as a back up, and to loan out to people that want to try WW2 airsoft, as I have 2 sets of uniforms one M42 and one M43

Well looks like it's a Cyma Thompson for me then, it's just going to be a secondary, my primary will be 2nd bat's Garand AEG.
but even tho it's only a secondary, I Like to have a more complete feel to the kit, so i'm using another £90ish at sofmilitary to buy one of those 10 pocket chest things and some other nicknacks

It took them around 3-5 days for me to get a confirmation email from them. They made up with it as it only took 3 days for me to get my package. It was a custom m16vn and a few extra magazines. I must say, for being a smaller, foreign company, they are one of my favorite airsoft retailers.

Yes, the guys at Boomarms, literally I think there are two of them that make up the company, do sometimes take a little while to respond. However, be that as it may, I will take two day delivery from Hong Kong as the 'payoff' anytime ;D Also, just like Keith at RSOV and Fung from Gunners, they will track down and get pretty much anything you can dream of needing, just ask. But hey ya'll.....this was supposed to be my 'secret' dealer- don't go crowding in there and make them as successful and busy as the other guys! lol j/k of course- but seriously, shhhhhhh let's keep all this between us K? -G

I always have, but by the time I get around to checking my email and reading it, the package is at my door. Should be the same for you Vikings, although the shipment will have to go counter-clockwise against the natural spin of the earth, so...it's anybodies guess
