First let me clarify. This is not the TOP Mp-40 This is a custom I made a while back using a Marushin cap gun kit and a TM AK gearbox. I used this gun a lot at the recent Battle of the Bulge game and noticed the motor sounded a bit whiny, So I decided to do some maintenance. It turns out that the little allen screw that adjusts the motor had just backed out (common problem with all AEG's, put loc-tite on those screws). I decided while I was in there to make some other changes. I removed the 9.6V Nimh battery in favour of a much smaller Li-poly (see sten thread for more info) which left rather a lot of extra space behind the gearbox......Hmmmm... A chance to try out an idea I've had for quite a while. have a look: home.comcast.net/~milsom44/mp40video.AVISchmitty

to quote Gordak....... AWESOME!!!!! So....I'm just having my TM Thompson sent directly to your house, when you get done doing whatever it is you did to the MP40 on the fake bolt on the Thompson.....just send it here ;D You need to let me make you a web site to start showing off your stuff! ....but then again with fame comes........more work! -G

Schmitty, My son had visions of just such a thing and kept asking why doesn't somebody do that with an AEG? ? He kept telling me how doable it was and I just ignored him and told him to dream on. I said if it was possible someone would have done it by now!!!! You are amazing! Why aren't you just doing this full time. Flying to Japan and serving as a consultant to companies that really need your help. We'd all benefit from it as would the airsoft community in general. WOW!!!!! Very very cool indeed.

Ammazing!
How did u get it to start with an open bolt??? that was the most ammazing part
I can only guess how you did it, its clearly not using the tappet plate, but rather the piston!
I have actually saved every Schmitty customization article, and I was going to post them all in one compendium on the site. (assuming Schmitty does not plan to) -Gordak

Well it's not totally realistic. the bolt doesn't actually travel the scale distance and there is no way to predict where it stops, but neither of these are that obvious, When it's flying back and forth its hard to see how far its moving, To start with an open bolt I just stopped it when the bolt was all the way back which is somewhat random. I did deliberately set the bolt handle so that its farthest point back is correct. It moves about 3" forward from there.
It works by a rod connected to the piston that goes out the back of the gearbox through the center of the spring guide. The bolt handle slides on its own guide and has linkage connecting it to the piston rod. You need about 3" clear behind the gearbox for the mechanism.
I like the idea of having a customs section website, and I don't mind if anyone wants to copy any ideas or info I provide. I'm not all that computer literate so would need help in setting it up if I did it myself.

Man, I have been waiting for someone to figure this out. Why didn't the major companies do this?

Well it turns out that I am not as original as I thought. I posted my video on my local airsoft board (Evergreen airsoft) and someone pointed out that there is a guarder kit to make the bolt handle move on a TM ak. It's hard to be original. Anyway... Guinness let me know what I can do to help the custom website. I'm not to keen on Skunkworks. I've seen that used by several garage type manufactures how about "Schmittys Maschinenarbeiten" translated means Schmittys machine works. It's got a nice ring to it don't you think?

lol, sure- your the boss ;D I just need to get a deal worked out with a provider and we can start talking names- one of the other first things to do is secure a domain name- Machinenengewasher is kinda long though- so maybe "Schmitty's Custom Werks" or "Schmitty's Fabrikenwerks" or something that's a bit easier to pronounce and lends itslef to an abbreviation or acronym easily. Keep thinking about it -G

Yes , you may be right. Either of your new suggestions would do as well. I wouldn't want this to cost you (or me) anything. After all we're not trying to sell anything. I just like to show people what can be done and help promote and stir up interest in WWII airsoft in general.

As your Brit's say, Brilliant!I have been toying with the idea of a picture site anyway.....cuz you know how I likes to take me some gun photos I have no doubt that it will become a popular site though- with the quality and uniqueness of the products that you create, and the stuff that John has done as far as impressions and 'life experience', and a couple of my pics scattered here and there, ;D - With the amount of surfing that I do myself for new and cool WWII Airsoft stuff and news on the net- I am positive there is an audience for this- I will need to make sure I have enough bandwidth to handle the traffic I'm certain! So it's all good- we'll figure something out! -G
