This is a TV show that was on in the 60's. The show kicks ass! there are some moments that are corny, like in season 2, the GI's were in this cave, and some Germans come in, start shooting, 1 guy is hit, stands there, 5 Germans keep firing JUST at him and he is not getting hit . and he throws a grenade before he dies. but those moments are not that common. it gives you a great view on the common foot soldier.

yea, the series starts on the eve of D-Day, and like you see some people that you thought would be in the show long term, bite the big one on the beaches

This is a great show, but some episodes feel like they are really dragging things out to try and fill a 1/2 hour time spot. Vic Morrow (the main character) was later killed during filming of the twilight zone movie when a helicopter crashed on top of him. His acting is a highlight of Combat for me.

I was always bothered by his apparent "Pacific Theater" camouflage hemet cover that Sgt Saunders (Vic Morrow) wore. I recently discovered that some GIs in the European theater put camouflage parachute material over their helmets. This is confirmed in a color documentary I own called George Stevens D-Day to Berlin which is a compilation of color home movies shot by the director with his own camera as his Army Signal Corp photographers documented the war in the familiar black and white. It also shows that the hood numbers on most Jeeps and Dodges were actually light flat blue not white! In the show I particularly liked Kirby the BAR gunner as he was small, cocky and self assured like a BAR gunner always seemed to be. It always struck me as funny that in most Infantry units the littlest guy always hauled the heaviest piece of hardware.

i've been told that the reasoning behind that was to make your fire support as small a target as possible.can't manuever with out fire...lol

"Combat!" was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I think it's one of the things that fueled my interest in WWII along with other TV shows like "The Rat Patrol" and "The World at War".

This is one of my dad's favorites....unfortunately, I just find it really corny all over. I watched the first two episodes and lost interest. i don't know why.
