I love this movie! I have about 15 minutes left in it, but thats only because I was up until 4 AM watching it. Except for a few incorrect details (like, boot coloring) this account of Hurtgen forest is astounding. A great film, in my opinion!

Yeah I thought it was a fairly good move also, and yes it was a million times better than Windtalkers. I liked The Thin Red Line much more though!

Interesting. I couldn't sit through Thin Red Line. Something about a horribly miscast 1st sgt that I just couldn't buy into. The sense of purpose among the troops on Guadalcanal (marines and GIs) was extrmely high. They knew it was a pivotal battle and critical to their efforts in the pacific. They did feel abandoned by the Navy but morale was generally very high even though it was an extrmely difficult campaign.
The movie had a very contemporary Hollywood persepctive on the battle. It was horrible enough without reading in all kinds of pscho babble.
When Trumpets Fade was very good and covered a battle not generally recognized by most Americans

Hey John (2nd bat) you told me you didn't like "when trumpets fade" at our Carentan game (It was one of the movies I loaned Hellmutt). In particular you remarked upon the scene where the chubby guy goes crazy with the flame thrower.
Anyway, I liked it. It is very similar to the Vietnam movie "Hamburger hill" same director?

2nd Bat: Not to disagree with you, but Norman Mailer's widely acclaimed novel "The Naked And the Dead" (1948) centers on many of the same "psychological" issues, especially personal interaction among the troops, their hellish environment, and morale issues.
Schmitty: Yes, both "Hamburger Hill" and "When Trumpets Fade" were directed by John Irvine.
