1943 is a great jacket. The forces in Italy used it (1st ID, 45th ID, 10th Mountain division) and the Airborne used alot of M43's (82nd Airborne, 101st AB), basically from 1943 to the end of the war, this uniform was used.

The M43 was worn by every division in the ETO from shortly after Normandy on. Some were issued earlier as well. If you have the jacket and M43 pants you're in great shape. The only advantage to the HBT uniform is that you could depict more periods throughout the war and other theaters such as the mediterranean, and pacific.
It's doubtfull you'd find anyone willing to do the trade unless it was a fit or size issue.

Ok the m43 uniform was introduced into the ETO (European Theater of Operations) around the fall of '44 and began replacing the m41 field jacket. It was introduced to pretty much the whole US army so you'd probably be ok with whatever division you choose. I can't really think, off the top of my head, of anyone who really used the '43 trousers a lot except the airborne. Everyone else tended to retain their wool trousers. The M41 field jacket was what the army used up to that point. It was not made of HBT (Herring Bone Twill) but was a khaki cotton poplin shell lined with wool. Basically if you're portaying anything before Fall '44 in the ETO go with the 41 jacket. after that go with the '43 jacket.

Yes, m43s totally fine. That's what I have. But if you're going for the normandy drop, get M42's.
P.S. Make sure you get the rigger modified trousers.

thanks alot for the info i found out just now its a airbourne uniform and was wondering can this be used in 101st airbourne because its all green ? thanks again for the info Ok I think you missed my point. The '43 jacket was pretty much used throughout the army. The trousers were something that were more prevelant, but not limited to the airborne. You don't have to just limit yourself to doing Easy 506th . The color of the uniform has nothing to do with what unit used it. If you still want to do 101st though, as mauser said, m43's were issued for Operation Market Garden, and worn throughout the rest of the war. Airborne m43 trousers were "rigger modified" meaning they had two extra pockets on the sides, and leg ties which went around the leg at the cargo pockets to keep your junk from flying around. Basically they were made into cargo pants - Haha and you wonder where all these fads come from, WW2 of course!
