Helmutt, From Battlesim in the Pacific Northwest, puts on period themed events with regularity. (Something big each month) He's had a couple large WW2 events (Battle of the Bulge last December and Carentan Game in April) He's sponsoring the Gothic Line (Northern Italy WW2) this September and is co-sponsoring the RECONDO school in August.
He held a Bootcamp for young new players last week and it was an awesome event. I suspect he'll hold several more next summer. He had 12-15 students ranging from 14 to 18 and they in essence went to a summer camp for airsoft for four days. They slept in tents and ate MREs which he provided.
They attended classes on safety, marksmanship and individual airsoft skills. They learned squad tactics, movement to contact, ambush and patrolling tactics as well as map reading and land navigation, RTO procedures, Hand and arm signals, night operations, immediate action drills and how to care for an upgrade AEGs from our local expert Schmitty.
It was an awesome event with lots of great skills application in the form of many, many skirmishes. A contingent from his Battlesim group served as the OPFOR and staff.
The classes were also taught by Helmutt himself, Captain Robison US Army (ret.) and Captain Bishop from Ft Lewis.
The great thing is folks had a super time and there are over a dozen new young players who come into this sport truly understanding how to move and act and with high expectations of first rate mil sim experiences. When many airsofters are intolerant of young players Helmutt is accepting and anxious to welcome them into the hobby and get them started out right
It was a cool event. many experienced long term airsofters would have learned alot and had a great time. By the 3rd day you could see these guys moving and working together extremely well and there skill level had gotten quite high in a very abbreviated time frame.
