Ya' damn skippy they'll shrink! When I was getting into WWII reenacting, I farted around with the idea and dying my Sweedish wools seemed like the obvious choice. Not knowing the craziness when it comes to schrinking, I took my perfect-fitting, size 44 Tunic, and prepared it for dying. I acquired a large bucket (or Gumbo bowl here in Coon-ass county -- Louisiana --hee-hee). I filled up both of the largest pots I had with boiling water (on the stove), and carefully poured em' into the bucket. You need realllllly hot water to acomplish dying okay; don't forget that; and for the love of God, DO NOT DYE YOUR CLOTHES IN THE WASHER; it'll stain everything for at least two cycles to come of your regular clothes. Now, afterwards, I put the tunic into the water, grabbed a stick (of some sort) and began to mix it with the hot water. When I was convinced it was saturated enough, I let it sit for about 1 hr. , occationally mixing it from time to time. When I was done, I carefully took the tunic out and filled the washer on the smallest level of water, and put it in. Being that I was rinsing the tunic out, I knew the washer would've been okay. First, I rinsed the tunic with no deturgent; second, when the cycle was over, I rinsed it again, this time using deturgent. The end result was beautiful. The only problem was that my size 44 tunic that fit me soooooo nicely turned into a size 42. I couldn't even button the top and the collar hooks was an impossible feat. As for my dying experience, I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson it taught me, and still continue to do it today. I've successfully dyed my VIETCONG PJs "Black" for my upcomming "Vietnam War" reenactment, and it came out beautiful. Good luck bro! Remember what I said about the schrinking! Be careful!
