Two questions,
1. on average, how many bb's would you say you guys go through at an event? (I am using a Thompson)
2. Where can I find bb's local and what is going rate for them? (.2 or higher.) I already payed 6 bucks for 1000 and I thought that was kind of steep but maybe I'm wrong.
I appreciate it,

Walmart sells a bottle of 2000 .2g BB's for $7.00. My local one sells them at least, I would think all Walmart stores sell them.

Well, I, as many, own the Tokyo Marui M1 Thompson, and really and truly, the rate of fire is completly and totally nasty! Not to mention the fact that letting it rip on "fully auto" is 150% addictive! Don't be surprised if you go crazy just like the rest of us have. As for the bb's, acquiring a jar of 2000 will do ya' just fine. In my honest oppinion, the ammount of bbs you should bring out to an event is secondary to one of the most important thing you should know about skirmishing. That would be, acquiring an extra magazine; maybe even two more. The most horrible thing you could experience in a game is running out of ammo. The Thompson needs a pipe and stick to load up another clip, and cannot be done when under fire. Do yourself a BIG favor: look for extra magazines.

Yeah, i have a high cap and a normal mag so that's no worry. While they are slightly more (a fair amount more) I am getting addicted to these black bb's I found at Sports Authority. You can't see them coming like the white or orange ones.
One more question: I looked at Walmart and they had bb's that said .24 cal but I don't think that was the right measurement because they felt kind of light. They said they normally have ones labeled "high density" however the lady at the counter knew little to nothing about what she was looking at and they were all out. What is .24 cal?

The black bb's are great! Are the ones from Sports Authority decent? I used their yellow bb's once and they crumbled and broke on impact. They were very cheap so you get what you pay for. Just curious about how the black ones performed.

I don't know man; I've never heard of a .24 cal. Hummmm.... As for the "black" bbs.......COOL! I've never had the opportunity to use em' yet, but I hear they're the applesauce ! Practicing my "sniper" techniques with my Tanaka Kar-98 G-version, maybe I should grab a bag of these myself (ha-ha).

.24 I think is metal BB's that go in the red rider BB gun's, don't get those. I'd say Sports Authority is your best bet.

2k-5k of bb's should be more than enough for one days play. Buy quality bb's not walmart bb's. and while your opponent can't see your black bb you can't either most of the time and these things are not firearm accurate. I like toytecs and KSC's but stealth are generally not a bad bb. I pay like 15.00 for 5k of stealth same thing for I believe 2k-2.5k of the Toytecs. I buy from georgiaairsoft.com but he sponsors us and he is local may not be best for you with shipping and all.

If you use the walmart BB's for long you'll be sorry. The Cybergun and Crossman brand BB's are horrible and bad for your gun, take a close look at them and you'll see dimples and mold lines, and there are a lot of deformed BB's in the bottles.

just buy excells, they rock Walmart bbs will ruin your gun. Black bbs are awesome, it feels like a real gun, because you can't see them, only the leaves breaking off trees and water and dirt spraying up into the air! . But at the same time, when shooting at people, you cant tell where your bbs are going, I prefer white tracer style bbs. -Gordak

Your best bet is probably online. The advice you are repatedly hearing here is very sound. The most common problem people experience with their AEGs is the result of using cheap deformed and missized non uniform Bbs. Or reusing ones they dropped or shot before. Even after going through cardboard they get malformed. Even the most expensive are dirt cheap ($8.000 for 5,000 rounds)so don't buy and use the Wal Mart. Sportsland, Big Five or even Jungle Toys super elite Bbs. They are horrible and will create inaccuracy and problems. The Black or Green Stealth BBs have been fine as are Excell or Airsoft Elite (in my guns) (Except my custom tightbore barrels where I can't use the black or green stealth. When I shoot the black or green Bbs I load every third or fourth in white and load my low cap initially with five white. Old army trick with tracers so you knew when you were close to being out. In this way you can monitor your flight and adjust but you're position is less obvious and opponent less likely toduck the BB that get him.
Real steel Bbs are 177 Cal. A 6mm BB would be a .25 Cal so they're probably close to a 6mm but no doubt not a quality BB. You can get Excells from any of the online stores Airsoft Extreme is a good source.

I have used Excel in the past, but have for quite some time now used ICS 0,25g in all my guns with great results.
(I keep some mixed 0,20, excel 0,23 and mix it up for 40mm granades and such at non ww2 games, otherwise i use nothing else.)
