What kind of battery does the thompson take.

8.4v Large type battery. Any mAh of your choice (it only affects how long the battery lasts) I use a Sanyo 8.4v 2000mAh battery and it has never failed me.

The Marui Thompsons can also accomodate a 7.2 Volt battery which produces a somewhat slower rate of fire and as I recall required a little filing so it will fit in. I prefer it as I like the slower more authentic rate of fire in the Thompson. The volts effect rate of fire and the Mah rating effect how many shots on a single charge.

Like 2nd Bat said, volts are the amount of power going to your gun. An 8.4v or 7.2v is fine, just don't go higher than that on a stock gun. Some people use 9.6v on stock guns with no problems but I would imagine it would put extra strain on the gears and cause them to wear out much quicker. Unless the gun is upgraded you shouldn't really need anything bigger than a 8.4v.
