I just visited an air show called wings of freedom or something like that and there was going to be a B-24 bomber and B-17 but they didnt come cause of the bad weather, so I got pretty mad cause of that, but I got something better than the planes, I got to meet 3 veterans, even one was a WASP. For those who dont know thats was and is still today a group for female pilots. One told me that the B-17 he was on got attacked by the luftwaffe during a bombing run and shot the waistgunners head clean off, also the same shots that killed one of there waistgunners. One Vet told me that the B-24 He was one was crashing because of some Flak damage to the left engine, his co pilot (his best friend) took control, told him and the crew to bail and sacraficed himself for the crew and his friend, Now the WASP very kind elderly lady her name Anne Durr who has alzhiemers disease and couldnt tell me her story, though her daughter kindly did a very good one too!! heres the link cause Im probably going to get in trouble for this huge post!!! These people are at the dupage county Airport for this airshow those who want to attend the show is on Friday 21, Sat 22, Sun 23, and Mon 24. I will be going back tommorrow to get more stories and some pics!!! Schutze Also Glad I didnt tell em I played as a Kraut!!!

That's some awesome stories, however I don't see a link.
By the way it's not nice to call people WASPs, I prefer White Bread. ;-)

Phantom12321; You need to read up on your history. WASP were the women aux pilots program. They were called WASP for short. There job was to deliever planes to the combat areas from the states. Don't feel too bad, it's a learning experience.

I left my camera on the plane!!!! Good thing it was a digital disposable camera. I was looking at the waist machine gun and I set the camera down next to it, The line behind me was pushy and I was forced to move ahead leaving my camera behind. When we got off and watched the bomber take off I realized Oh SHiat Where the Hiells my camera??? So sadly I dont have any pictures so Im very sorry though when they come next time Ill ask for my camera. LOL

Were these the Collings Foundation Bombers? I met two B-24 POW vets when I went to see them. One of them I was talking to told me the story of how his plane was hit over Germany and he suffered a serious flak wound to his leg. They bailed out, and as he was coming down he was swinging in his chute with his leg still attached only by a little bit, so as he was swinging, the leg kept on swinging and twisting giving him terrible pain. Well finally he stabilizes his chute, and gives a sigh of relief...'till he looks down and sees he's head straight into the Rhine ! So he yanks the risers hard and starts swinging again, but luckily lands on solid ground, where he was picked up by a German patrol and sent to Austria where he had his leg amputated, but was sent home pretty quickly in a prisoner exchange. Fast forward to a couple of months back, and he was visiting Yosemite with his family. He pulls his car up to the gate, but the ranger keeps hassling him about his handicap status (despite his numerous paperwork, placards, and license plate : . Apparently the ranger kept insisting that he prove he was the disabled person in the vehicle. Finally he had enough, put his car into park, popped his prosthetic leg out, and shoved it in the ranger's face. The ranger, stunned beyond belief, speachlessly waved him through the gate. ;D
