The movie 300 is about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. in which 300 Spartans, 400 Thebans, and 700 Thespians fought off a force of over 250,000 Persians for three days, and inflicting between 20,000-80,000 Persian casualties before being completely massacred themselves. Though it seems to be more based on the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller, who also wrote Sin City, so they take a lot of liberties with historical fact. But it looks like it will be pretty good. 300 comes out on March 9, 2007.

looks very Tarantino'ish. His movies are usually great imo but all the pretty digital effects tend to catch my attention too often and make me focus less on the movie.(yes i also have a fascination for shiny things, purdy things, and jingeling car keys). should this be moved to off topic?

My friend and I tried to get in but couldnt so we had to call his mom who worked down the road from the theater to vouch for us. I really want to see it in IMAX but the only IMAX near us is at a science museum and only shows science movies.

why am I always the downer on this board, Me - no - like 300 the true story is much more facinating. I can go on and on. I know its supposed to be sureal, but in this film surealism was the way they cut costs. just my opinion, don't flame me for it. -Gordak

Have just seen the previews and can tell you I plan on never seeing it. Why make a cartoon out of such a true historical battle. I would much prefer a realistic movie to the fantasy. The history was not fantasy so why should the movie be. I guess it is a generational thing but I don't believe special effects should substitute for good movie making. I'll just watch The Big Country (Gregory Peck) and The Caine Mutiny (Humphrey Bogart) over again and save the dime. P.S. Band of Brothers wasn't fantasy and didn't need to be. It's great cinema.

I heard they based it off the comic book?? WTF? Looks mega stupid, almost like a historical(ish) WoW or something. Stupid Hollywood.

keep in mind though, the intended audience for this film is teenagers. The same crowd that go crazy over snakes on a plane, and other ridiculous movies. There was no historical accuracy intended.

I knew before I saw it that they would take quite a few liberties with historical accuracy, but I still liked it anyway.

Noone said it was historicaly accutate, its called Frank Miller's 300, same guy who wrote Sin City. Why complain that is not historical when its not sposed to be?

Yea I read the graphic novel and it was just like the movie. The graphic novel was based on the events but extremely fantasized. And the movie was way more inaccurate. But I still don't think the movie too fantasized enough to walk out of the theater. It was a fun movie to watch history in it or not.

Because a movie based on the real battle could have been awesome without all the crazy effects and fantasic lollipops ies. I have not seen it so I shouldn't say but, I do not plan on seeing it. P.S. I hear the Iranians are mad about it cuz it portrays the persians (their ancestors) as blood thirsty animals and many of them as freaks of nature.

Lol I thought about that during the movie, The Iranians consider themselves directly related.
I'm actually not that pissed about the historical accuracy as much as the uber-cheap dumb ass cost cutting measures I saw, I don't want to spoil the film for people, but historical accuracy totally put aside, the film was nothing special at all, a two part TV movie maybe but not a cinema block buster, I did like the King character, a decent actor who helps the credibility of the film,... in vain. -Gordak
