So I've got a bunch of money sitting in my flexible spending account that I have to spend by April, so I've decided to go balls out and get some prescription goggles for airsoft.
I've heard that the Wiley X tactical goggles are a good choice, but I'm having a hard time deciding on which model to get. My main requirement with them is that they cannot fog. Fog drives me insane and I will not tolerate it.
Does anybody have any experience with the various Wiley X models so that they can make a recommendation?
Thanks,
-Tad

I own a few pairs of the Wiley X SG-1s. These are the glasses/goggles they issue to troops through RFI going to either A-stan or Iraq. At first I didn't like them so much because all they did was fog but after wearing them as everyday sunglasses I seemed to have 'broken' them in and I rarely have fogging problems anymore. I wear them all the time when I go airsofting and in fact use them with WWII airsofting down here since they are low profile and are full seal.

I have Wiley's on in this picture. I painted the frames with a tan colored Krylon 'Fusion' brand paint to help hide the fact that I have goggles on. The rims around the lenses are still black and that is all that shows from 20 feet away. Like Bull said, they do fog just like anything else that is worn under a helmet, but not near as badly as any of the other goggles I've tried.

Why not use contacts...

I've considered the same option as you Udo and just got safety approved safety/shooting glasses instead in my prescription.
Personally, I hate using contacts in the field and don't like them in general. I'm not very good at taking them in/out and don't like the idea of having to poke my finger in my eye after a full day of airsofting. If a contact comes out, it's essentially ruined in field conditions and you get that blurry vision of 1 contact in and 1 contact out. To each his own though.

They are small, expensive and not very comfortable. My brother doesnt wear his contacts when he airsofts. Its not fun when you have to sit out because you lost a $50 contact and cannot see. Stick with perscription goggles or glasses under a facemask not only because comfort but because you only spend $100-$200 once.

So I'm going to stick this under Udo's thread. As it's somewhat related...
I'm looking at the Wiley full goggle system as an alternative to the sealed sunglass style goggles.
My impression currently doesn't utilize a helmet (just an M43 fieldcap), so I'm not worried about fit so much as the fogging...
Like Udo I have zero tolerance for fog, and I've tried mesh but don't like how it cuts down on visibility.
So can anybody relate their experiences with Wiley's full goggles (Nerve, CQC, or Spear)?
Edit: I'm not looking for RX lenses. Just something that has full enclosure and doesn't fog
Thanks

I wore these during an all game on Sunday. Temps in the upper 40's made it prime fogging temps when wearing a helmet. Only once did I have any issued and it was when I stopped abruptly after a run. The warm air rushing up out of my body armor fogged the lenses for about 5 seconds. As soon as I moved my head, they cleared. No other issues all day. www.discountsafetygear.com/pyv2ggoclaf.htmlI used this brand for over two years before having to replace the googles due to scratched and dings from BB hits. I just ordered two more pairs and love 'em. They work well under both modern ACH/MICH and PASGT style helmets and do not give me issues wearing a WWII M35 helmet. In fact, the more open design of the M35 makes for much better airflow up through the goggles.

Thanks ripper!
These are cheap enough that even if they don't work as you've said, I'm not out a lot of dough.
I appreciate it!

I have a pair of SG-1s and i like them a lot. The low profile is great. I wore them during my last FTX two weeks ago underneath my paintball mask as sunglassed and had no problems with them fogging. I definitely recommend them.

I used the SG-1 V-cut model for a while (~6 months). I only had minor problems with them fogging up but, then again, I was very out of shape when I had them, and I was sweating Bullets when I was running around on the field! After I sold those, I decided on the Spear model; the full sized one. This thing has Excellent ventilation, with venting holes All Around the lens; 365* (degrees) of ventilation! The only time they Ever fog on me is when I'm sweating bullets (again, not in shape; working on that...). Also, I did not sell the SG-1's because I didn't like them: someone wanted one and I didn't have any in stock, so I sold mine right off my face (not only did I use them as face protection, but as every day sunglasses too). I'd recommend Wiley-X goggles to anyone! Gorak: I've Never heard of that problem, not even with other goggle brands, and I find it difficult to simply remove the lenses so, if you've seen them get "blown out," the the owner most likely did not have the lens properly situated in the goggles (they can be difficult to align them with the goggle). Maybe the ones you'd seen get "blown out" were a different brand? Edit: anywhere you buy Wiley-X's, the retailer can special order prescription lenses for the Wiley-x model you want!
