Now the problem with a lot of sites is that you cant build much decent as knobbers go and vandalise it as soon as you've built it. So we came up with a solution the 'flat pack' bunker. Its 6ft by 6ft.. 4ft tall, was vision slits with hinged covers and even a rear door. Roof is a camo net allowing 'grenade kills' And the best bit is it al hinges into one flat package! Currently receiving its final paint coats in the back yard at the mo. early build pics here: Obviously its rough as a badgers i those pics but you get the idea. Its now been painted in concrete effect grey paint and is gettig a camo job tomorrow.

I probably wouldn't get as involved as slit covers myself. Extra work and I've yet to see actual bunkers with them. Any directions on how to get them to fold and build easily. I really like the idea of these, I could easily see myself building 5 or 6 of them and bringing them to events in the trailer.

Slit covers were more 'filmsim' and going off the film 'the bunker' but we didnt have time to make sliding ones.
I'll be doing a how to guide in the mag at some point.

For effect I would think the bunker would look somewhat cooler if you sloped the side walls slightly creating a tapered look. They could still hinge and set up would be virtually as simple.
Foam the outer walls and paint in grey so they'd look like concrete structures will manageable weight. Actually with foam you could do them framed and with chicken wire and then foam and paint. They'd be super light, still reasonably strong and very simple to set up, transport and take down. There was a guy who did amazing work in Foam for hollywood props and had an incredible display at John Lu's expo. He was killed by a drunk driver about five years ago unfortunately but his bunkers looked amazing. Witht the anged shape he could stack one on top of the other for transport and once seperated and spread aroun you had an immediate strong point.

Looks great. That will enhance your scenarios considerably. I suspect a cluster of them would make a pretty formidable strong point. By itself without supporting interlocking fires it will not prove especially daunting however several of them well positioned within the terrain especially with wire... Very cool.

Original plan was for three with dragons teeth and wire.
Going to build a new one for each event.
This one is for a road block

For our PTO event we are considering making somethign similar to these. Maybe one or two of the cone shaped one man MG positions. Also we may be putting some into the sides of hills, and becuase of that we sont need a backside to them, but a roof will be needed.

I know the sort you mean, if you ever played the game 'hidden and dangerous II' there is whole level dedicated to clearing a hillside infested with jap log MG bunkers built into them.
I guess you could make log ones by getting that bark strip stuff and nailing it to the hardboard base.

Nice work. That definitely looks like it will add to the fun factor. There should be some award for the people taking it out. Factor that in. Does the bunker have a blind side? You mentioned two gun ports and a door. The last time I checked a square had four sides. A blind side would be kinda cool. Let the supporting infantry protect that side of the bunker. I have an idea to make it better. Pour about 4-feet of concrete on top of the metal roof and you'll be better protected against air attack. Then next you need to dig a connecting labyrinth of underground tunnels and interlock the whole works with a .... ;D

Make it 200 feet taller and 100 feet wider and you got yourself a D-Day Blockhouse . Just kidding, I like the door, though. That was my favorite part.

It does have a blind side intentionally.
Played with it at the varsity battle yesterday. I stormed it with an assault group of british airborne, we lost about 15 men on the way in, it was a pig to take.
We're toying with the idea of future ones being surfaced with chicken wire, over the wood, then plastter then painted so that when they are hit bits of surface spall off.

That would be cool. (And of course very light weight and easy to move around.) The foam is a squirt away from repair. In the 50 and 60s the army had systems that created fake bunkers on chicken wire frames and sprayed grey foam. I always thought that such a system would be so awesome to have as for airsoft they in fact would be functional.

Sorry to necro, but I just saw this today. Might get a wee tad warm in that thing with a metal roof. Also, I will assume that you just squat down inside, or do you dig a temporary hole underneath to allow its occupants to stand up?

those bunkers look cool and all. but the best bunker would have to be one of earth works in general. basiclly you would have to dig a good size trench in the ground. then you would cover it with fallen trees. then for camo just spread leaves all over it. it works very well

Fallen trees? That's a little much. Dig a small hole, then use the dirt for a little parapet in front and cover lightly with leaves and naturally found items. Again Gadge very nice! Would that be portable in any way?

A lot of sites that will allow you to play won't allow you to dig trenches or bunkers so this is a very reasonable arrangment. Because they are portable you can reloacte them to whatever venue you are able to use.
It also makes playable areas that typically would not be. (Too open for example) Some dragons teeth and fake wire would be awesome.

I can understan the trench and bunkers rule. If someone doesn't notice and falls into it they could very well break or sprain their leg. I am talking about dragging it by like a pick-up or something. It looks, by the picture, doable since it has no foundation rooted in.
I don't see how playing in an open area on the field would be a problem. That would add realism, having to dig in anywhere you could. You could also set up a perimeter for guard shifts. Dragon's Teeth would be awesome!

We built this purely because we cant build or dig in there.
It completely portable it hinges down into a 6x4x1 foot box or can be several separate sections as the hinges are held with 'L' shaped pins
We used it with some gucci explosive 'hedgehog' roadblocks last week... those are built to collapse when a 3gram pyro charge is detonated at the apex.

Unfortunately chap as with most things in WWII airsoft props are rarely to scale for reasons of build time, economy and most of all transportation. Living in Europe and even more so the UK, pillboxes like this one litter our countryside (by every river in fact to repel a german river crossing) and I'm fully aware of how big they *should* be ... However we built it for less than about $100 US in two days, please feel free to show me a much bigger one built on a similar budget and timescale... oh and one you can get in the back of a landrover...

yeah gadge......one of my favorite sites in my history bookmarks.... www.pillbox-study-group.org.uk/sitemappage.htmi like the designs of many of those and the designs could be adapted to other materials for AS use.....some of the more square ones could be built with reinforced straw bales with some plaster over them, semi permanent type thing, that would give the impression of a thick concrete structure that could be knocked down in a few minutes and leave minimal enviromental impact as well....
