We've been discussing this on our unit's discussion forum as well. Pretty cool. I would definitely prefer something like this to a golf cart "tank." Those things are just cheesy. Of course, I'd prefer a Panther

Although he probably could have made a full scale panzer II for the trouble....

If you're into scenario tank design and construction, check out these sites: forums.warpig.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=918a4ffd16676cce8d481410a241dad4The Tank Talk forum on Warpig is the best source I know for design and construction info, while TJ Alcott's Armored Fist site is a close second - www.armoredfistpaintball.com/Armored Fist runs a full-scale Panther repro on the East Coast. This Tiger repro is a truly outstanding scratchbuild, one of the best I've ever seen. This guy made the right decision by scaling down. None of these things are easy to build or maintain, but full-scales real heartbreakers. Just to begin, it takes 16 TIMES more material to build a full-scale than a half-scale - you are cubing the overall surface area of the outer hull as well as the interior compartment, after all. Plus a custom oversized trailer rig is needed to transport to games, the big truck to pull it ain't cheap neither, and oversize permits are usually required to haul it anywhere. Once you get it to a game, you have about a 50% chance of discovering that the field trails cannot accomodate a vehicle of your size anyway; or that the field owner won't let you move or use your cannon or fire full-auto on players or any combo of last-minute dipstick tank rules that he and his hairdresser cobbled up over lattes the night before the game - this is especially true of paintball scenario games. If you really plan on using the thing at games, smaller is usually better. Armored cars are better than tanks with treads, since tire tracks won't freak out field owners nearly as much as tread ruts will.

He should make a smaler tank like the Panzer IV. The only problem is the Panzer IV has a more detailed body then the Tiger which is rather simple. It just matters whats harder size or detail?

That's what I always thought would be the best candidate. The Befehlswagen covers the entire war too.
Wasn't that the vehecile the cardboard kubul was VERY loosely based off of? the Turret/compartment region is at least.

I have seen Theta Xi up close at Oklahoma D Day 2008 It is a very well laid out tank there was also another tiger in attendance that was full scale but it was only a well detailed plywood shell but it cold support the weight of soldats on top of it I rode part of the way back to camp on top of it. At Oklahoma DDay the big accurate tanks looked cool and added to the feel of the game but they are not that effective when compared to their smaller brethren.

For airsoft skirmishing there are lots of worthwhile advantages to replicating the smaller armor. The dead zone on an actual tank (the areas it's weaponry can't cover) is about equal to the range of airsoft weapons hence they would frankly be about worthless. Certainly as an individual isolated vehicle.
Most fields you play at have trails or small roads that couldn't accomodate anything much larger than a Jeep from my experience and as mentioned the challenges with getting the vehicles to the event would be enormous.
From my experience, single opposition armor is frightening the first time encountered but you quickly figure out how to defeat it (or avoid it) Two and especially three vehicles working together are really effective and create a tremendous fear factor. I hope I live to see the day we have numerous realistic armor vehicles at large WW2 airsoft events.

The Baltic Summer event in Wisconsin is going to have both the half scale Tiger and a Russian BA-64 armored car in attendance.

The vehicles should serve as a great draw for your Baltic event. It would be fun to participate.

Just an update. After accepting $650 in uniforms for him and his crew, Will Foster and company were a no-show at the event. This money was a group effort with contributions coming from MOA members in great generosity and this action was a letdown for sure. The mixed blessing was that any plans to work with him on the design and construction of another vehicle have been shelved. Steer clear folks.

Sorry to hear he stiffed you. Is there any recourse to get the uniforms back?

UPDATE - email today received from him which shows a character trait I like and that is humility and admitting that he was incompetant for mistaking his dates. Compounded with his phone going out on him and his promise to attend our next event and I am inclined towards giving him another chance. We'll see. Stay tuned.
