Operation Dragoon was the Allied invasion of southern France that took place on August 15th 1944.
The landing took place between Toulon and Cannes, with the initial assault force consisting of 3 American divisions and 1 Free French armoured division. Additionally, American, British and French commandos who had been previously inserted were placed in commanding positions to lead the newly landed troops Airborne formations also participated heavily in the invasion.
Over ninety-four thousand Allied troops, and eleven thousand vehicles, were land on the first day of the invasion. German resistance was relatively weak, as many German forces had been moved to northern France to fight the Allied forces which had previously landed in Normandy. Pockets of German opposition fought with tenacity that was suprising due to their decreased numbers. Nevertheless, the Operation Dragoon force met up with the Allied forces advancing from Normandy in mid-September in the vicinty of Dijon.
From Sergeant Of The Guard, His Majesty's Army, Charles Gallagher
United States Serviceman of the Mediterranean Theatre,
You will soon embark with me on our date with destiny. Guardsman and commandos of His Majesty's Military have already become familiar with positions and terrain the enemy inhabit. I will be your guide and commanding officer as our mission goes underway. After myself you will answer to your respective unit commanders. Detailed mission briefing will follow in less interceptable forms of communication.
If you are planning to attend this event as an Allie please PM me, if as Axis, PM Franz

The possible units to go to this event as are as follows: Infantry can go as 3rd, 45th and 36th Infantry Division. Airborne can go as 509th PIB, 517th RCT and 551st PIB. I am setting up my unit to go as 509th PIB and I am researching into that unit. Hopefully the guys from St. Louis from the 101st if you guys are interested I'd like you guys to come join with me and do 509th as well.

While we will maintain the confidentiality of the exact address of the event location, by only distributing that information by PM. I can tell you it is a 24 acre piece of property belonging to living history village. While fighting in the town will most likely be out of the question due to the glass windows, it should make for some nice photos and we will have the remaining 23 acres or so to use.

I'm definitely going to try and attend this one! Hopefully I won't be in mobilization at Bragg by then... I'm also going to try and get some more STL guys to make the trip up there! Now the only thing I'm debating on is whether I want to do Airborne or straight leg infantry... hmmm....
