Cool! Thanks for posting this. I wasn't aware that this project was in the works. The wish they had more from the Axis perspective tho'...that is, real information and not of the ultra politically correct ilk. Mike

Odin...There's a 2 DVD set out called "Voices From Hitler's Army". It's war stories told by the German soldiers who fought. There is a TON of footage I've never seen before. TRIVIA: The Ken Burns documentary has the "F" bomb in it and PBS is fighting to air it at primetime but the FCC is saying they have to show it after 10pm....PBS is citing the uncut showing of Saving Private Ryan on network tv as an example of the FCC showing bias.

Hey Doom...thanks for the info. I've never heard of that title before. According to the write up it was released a few months ago. Amazon has a funny way of listing similar items as well...so I will be checking those out too.
Thanks,
Mike

I watched all the episodes of "Voices From Hitler's Army" and found it to be a well produced series. Each episode is 45 minutes long. Like I said before, there is some great war footage that isn't really seen outside of Germany. It contains NO interviews with Americans. It's 100% German soldiers talking about life on the front lines. I see that amazon.com wants 53 bucks for it. That's a little high. I rented it. I would try ebay for a better price.

It's the same crap they run on the History Channel, and have been for ever. Besides, PBS blows almost as much as NPR.

I suspect it will be quite good. Our local TV affiliate is seeking support info from living history groups and I'm sure throughout the country there will be opportunities for some positive exposure for your groups if you want to pursue it get in touch with your local TV stations and let them know about your groups.

The previews look awesome! I would really like to buy the DVD, but $130 bucks seems a little ridiculous!

2nd Bat: If a bunch of us contacted WTTW, (our local PBS (which does not blow) station) what would you propose we say to them, and what would they do to promote us? Just curious

Just let them know that you are a member of a WW2 living history group with authentic impressions and period gear and if there was any way your group could be used to support the program please let you know. Odds are they would want to use you at premiers or launch events or do follow up to shgare what local people do.
They on their own accord got in touch with both the local military vehicle club and a local WW2 group asking for help so I figured other local affiliates would probably want to do the same.

Battlesim just went to the preview all dressed in WWII kits last night, the vets and guests all loved it!
I was actually pretty impressed with the documentary, and bought a copy (ironically it ships before its finished airing).
Something that stood out in my mind was Ken Burns stating that he decided to make a WWII documentary for two reasons: 1. WWII vets are dying at a rate of 1000 a DAY 2. A majority of students leave high school believing that the US and Germany allied together to fight the Russians.

If "the War" has the same affect that "the Civil War" did, expect the ranks of WW2 reenactors to swell. This will be a good recruiting opportunity for airsofters too!

The preview yesterday was extremely well done. The Display in the lobby was one of the best I've ever seen as were all the touches throughout the facility. The vehicle club display outside was very compelling and the "GIs" provided by The Friends of Willie and Joe and Battlesim looked great. Both were acknowledged very favorably (along with the vehicle club) in the presentation and recieved nice applause.
I took some pictures of the event and will try to get them up.

So, the big day's coming. I'm pumped. Me and my great-uncle (the one who's a 26th vet. from WWII) are gonna try to watch it all together. Haven't been this excited about a documentary since I ordered the full color of war series.
p.s.- Yes, I get excited about documentaries from time to time. Sadly, that is not one of my worse confessions.

Here are some more pictures from Battlesim and ther Friends of Willie and Joes display at the local PBS affiliates preview launch coctail party for "THE WAR" The gang in the lobby Hellmutt with the thousand mile stare. Some of the vehicles on display Jager Dru and Adler as GIs instead of Krauts (very rare!) Static display "Original Party Luger with GI transition papers was part of the marvelous display at the event.

Yes, awesome. Yet lengthy. For once I was asking for a comercial break (and the one time PBS should have given one).
