Does anyone have any info on the HW (newer) Tanaka Lugers? I'm looking to buy one and wanted to get some info first from any of you who have either had one or still own one. Thanks

Nice looking pistols and the feel great to hold My gripe is the hop unit and mags You need to take down the gun to adjust the hop, which is a pain in the ass and the mags tend to leak very easy Im still wondering how to seal them properly.............. Ideas anyone

How does the hop work? I heard something about it being upside down or something? Is it kind of like their Mauser hop up (Adjust from the bottom, moves a lever and pushes the rubber down)? Is yours the old 1906 or newer 1908 mags? I know the old ones leaked but the magna R ones were supposed to be fixed. Do you think its worth the money overall (power, range, etc)? Also, what length would you say is the best? I liked the look of the artillery version but I'm wondering if that would be too long. Thanks

all three of mine were well adjusted straight out of the box LOL, I never touched the hop up. Great guns.
Just remmeber it needs to be cocked when removing or inserting the magazine, you will dammage the gun if you don't follow that.

Yeah, it'll snap the firing pin off wont it? Whats the best size do you think? Is 8 too long and is 4 too short? What did the wehrmacht use? any particular size?

Oh really? Wow, I didn't know that. Right-o good info Gordak. Last questions, I promise lol. From your experience how does it perform on green as far as kick (not expecting much from that toggle), distance, and fps?

green gas works at first, but will blow it up after about ten mags.
it performs very well on 134a.

Damn it, I knew I was gonna ask something else. What gets destroyed on green? Would getting the harder recoil springs help remedy that?

So, the new ones do not leak?
I'm going back and forth with the Maruzen p38 or the Tanaka luger 4in.

get the luger heavyweight!
the 4 inch may look small on the internet, but it fits like a glove in your hand and balances perfectly. also, as gordak said, it is the only accurate wwII replica. i got mine and it kicks A. and the newest mags have no leakage problems.
i appologize if this is replying to a dead post.

I own both the Maruzen P38 and the Tanaka HW 4" Luger. They are both great guns. The Luger is a little more fragile than the P38, but as Gordak says it shoots great right out of the box. I have two targets, one shot with a 4" and one with an artillary Luger at 5 yards. Both 5 shot groups can be covered with a quarter (I also have a bunch that aren't that good, but I suspect there's a lot of pilot error involved). I have only had problems with one out of three mags and I suspect that was because I used green gas in it. There seems to be a group of air softers that follow the real steel reloaders that want a round that "goes out 500 yards flat and then lifts a little". If you can hit a man sized target at 15 yards, and I know you can with the Tanaka Luger, with a real pistol, you should be happy with the 4" HW. And remember, while the P38 is arguably the best side arm to come out of WW2, there's not many sexier than the Luger.

Hey guys, I just got a hold of a Tanaka P08 and I must say this is one of the nicest guns I've ever had. I friggin love Tanaka haha. All your info has been very helpful and probably helped keep me froim killing the gun on its first day with me, lol. I also posted in the sellers thread about any broken ones people had, Im looking to collect them in working or non working order so if you have one and its dead lemme know.
