Well my M14 still isn't shooting that great. My brother shot me in the leg from about 5 feet away, maybe a bit less, and I could hardly feel it! I expect it to hurt especially at that range. My friend shot me with his $10 shot gun from about 6-7 feet away and it stung a lot. I am guessing either I need a better battery or my hop up isn't lined up right with the inner barrel.

Well, the hop-up could be a problem, but a battery will not effect FPS. I suspect either the hop-up/barrel problem or loss of compression. Also, don't judge Marui by it's FPS to price, it would out range any AEG out on the field.

Its not that my AGM M14 is junky its just that I bought it used and alot of the parts were missing, bolt lock, screws, and other parts. I am not sure if the hop up was broke when I got it or not. Anyways I will buy a new hop up. I hope that will fix the problem.

The Marui is a fine AEG as everyone knows. Excellent hop up and precision fit and finish with truly outstanding build quality. It will NOT however outrange the CYMA without substantial upgrades. I have owned and extensively tested 35+ Maruis and 80+ CYMAs. I have also owned 3 Airsoft Club, Three GnGs, Two TSDs, a Kart 66, a couple UTGs, around 30 AGMs. The AGM and CYMA will both outrange the Marui right out of the box although the difference is quite insignificant. (10 to 15 feet)
You have every reason in the world to be proud of your Marui as they are excellent but the claim on range is simply not the case when compared to a GnG, Cyma or AGM right out of the box.

Well, I've got my parts here or on the way. A question. Do you usually leave the selector switch in place, or set it to semi, take the knob off and cover it over?

Its optional. I'd set it to semi and then cut the switch off and cover it up because it looks much more realistic but you can leave it on if you want.

I leave it up to my customers to decide and have done it either way. Assuming you cut it off be careful of course that you have it in the proper setting (Duh!) and that you do so in a way that won't damage the function of the gun. Also realize that once the switch is removed the channel cut in the M14 stock becomes very pronounced. You will want to fill the area but do so in a way that you can still disassemble and reassemble the rifle. This is harder than it sounds. It will result in a slightly noticeable gap. You also my elect to remove the M14 charging handle guide but again assuming you do that there will be an additional M14 stock gap to fill. All of this fill takes time and effort and requires additional cosmetic efforts to blend and finish so it appears to be part and parcel to the now modified lower stock.
If you look at the most recent pictures in the "Responses to PMs" you'll see pictures of stocks with the selector switch removed and still in place. It really is your choice as to how mucg detail you want to extend to the conversion. There are advantages to both leaving it and removing it. Forgetting about the anal, detail freaks on this site (myslef included) most people would never even notice the difference.

So I was wondering what do you guys use to finish metal parts on your airsoft guns after sanding and mix matching with real steel parts. I know the real Garands were parkerized but I am not sure how much parkerization would cost, I have also heard of bluing which would give it a similar finish to parkerized metal but I am not sure. What do you guys use?

Garands like so many things WW2 provided a number of finished appearances that would be authentic depending on what look you are trying to achieve. When brand new from the factory the metal appeared Flat Black. Once coated in cosmoline and cleaned off for field issue the parkerization provded an appearance that ranged from quite dark to a almost flat medium grey with a slight hint of green. Once in the field and subject to conditions and frequent cleaning and field stripping the metal had a mixed worn appearance. You can accomplish any and all of these looks using paints and finished available at hobby shops. I have done some (at customer requests) in Flat Black with a hint of gloss. I have done others to represent the field issued parkerization using a mettalizer paint (Gun metal) over sprayed in a dull coat. For the mixed metals I highlight the areas that would typically show wear with a silver highlighter paint pen and then coat with a wash of thin black and finally layered with a dull coat. The final look mirrors the actual metal components used most closely and in my opinion provides the most accurate and common appearance. The one in the middle is gunmetal mettalizer with a dull coat overspray. The other two are flat black with a hint of gloss. This picture shows a variety of finishes

Hmmm when I redo mine I may just spray it all gun metal, what brand do you use?

Model Masters. was the brand. Once dry you need to overspray it a couple times with a clear DULL COAT to both protect the finish and to create the proper "parkerization" effect.

Cool. Ive used tamiya paint in the past and its okay but i really like that color.
Think Kryon Matte would be good enough for the dull coat?

Not familiar enough with it to say but my gut instincts tell me that a matte finish isn't going to be flat enough for the look you're trying to achieve

Has anyone tried using a Cushman M1 Garand stock to replace the M14 one.

Why wouldn't you use it? With a coat of bondo and some painting it would look like wood. The thing is would the internals fit.

The plastic is very, very thin, and honestly, for the effort its not worth it. Why not just use the m14 stock?

Well the M14 butt stock is longer then the M1 Garands. The front part of the stock is much bulkier on the M1 Garand then the M14. The bulk can be added using bondo but the length of the butt stock can't.

Applying the bondo to the outside of the M14 stock is less work than slopping and applying it to the inside of the Cushman abortion. (IMO) Either way is quite a bit of work. Tommy Gunner did a great job on his but as is evident from following his thread, it took a great deal of energy, effort and skill.

Sorry for double post but I have great news! I was just testing my other M14, the one that doesn't work is Dave's, and It shot much better then dave's. So I shot dave in the leg and he didn't feel it so I said "I can't believe you didn't feel that" and I then said" Here shoot me in the leg" and he shot me and it stung. Man it was the best sting ever and then dave said" maybe I have thicker pants then you" Then he told me to shoot him and when I did he stood there expecting not to feel anything and then Bang and he went jumping in the air, "ouch". Man I am happy that mine works but we still need to figure out why dave's doesn't.

Well I had a skirmish at my cousins house today and the Garand worked great. I went smoothly through a fully loaded Hi cap mag. It shot consistently with no problems. Its stuck on full auto unfortunately. I am going to take it to an Airsoft shop to see if they can fix that problem. I have a question for all you AGM M14 users, how far does the BB travel? Maybe its just me but mine seems to not have a very good range. I looked it up on google and a guy says his shot 20 yards but after adjusting the hop up it shot 60 yards. So maybe my hop up is adjusted wrong.

Let us know how the painting goes. I've tried the wood finish, but can only get a dark walnut, which isn't the shade I was going for.
