I need an Mp-40 to complete my Fallschirmjager kit.
Which is the better gun and why?
The Top MP-40
The Asahi MP-40
What are fair prices for used Ones and can anybody steer me towards a good dealer for purchase?
Thanks for all your help in advance!

The TOP will be better over time.
You can't put a LRB on the Asahi. So the range is going to suck (about 70-90feet). And the mags are a tad hard to get but you see them every once in a while.
You can make TOP mags into hi-caps so you can have more ammo. But the TOP has bad internals(sp?) and need a PGC gearbox ($400).

I'm pretty sure you CAN put an LRB in the Asahi, since Gordak's has one in it.

you sure it is not SCS? I was told by AS4L.com that it could not be done. I owned a stock Asahi and I now own a stock TOP I perfer the TOP. Even if I could have put a hop up in the Asahi. The build material is way inferior to the TOPS body which is mostly metal. I perfer not to have a hose but that is not as big a turn off as it is for some people. Mags were hard to find and finicky. I am hoping Gordak notices this thread and will share his expertise on the Asahi and TOP as he ahs owned both and extensivley moded several Asahi's as I recall.

That was directed to you Dan.....
Well, I did some research and it looks like you can put a SCS in a Asahi. My bad guys.
I think I would still go with a TOP.

No guys, he put an LRB in there, trust me.
And I'd get an Asahi, just because getting a TOP to run RELIABLY requires a PGC gear box and when it's finally done it costs almost a thousand dollars(I think). You can grab an asahi for 400, slap an LRB in it and be good to go.

I will believe that when Gordak him self tells me he has an LRB in that Mp40.
No offence Nimlas.

LOL LOL LOL The reason AS4l wont put an LRB in an mp40 is because its not Gravy work. While very space constrained, compared to other guns. It's not hard you just need to use the outer barrel housing as part of the anti rotation, which means you need to cut it! this cosmetic alteration scare alot of people off, but its way worth it.
"You can put a SCS in a Asahi but not a LRB" , first off if you mean all asahi's you are totally clueless. I hope thats not what you ment, cause this whole argument would be a massive waste of everyones time.
lrbs are tiny, and SCS is Huge, HOw the ^%#$@% are you going to get an SCS in there when The LRB barely fits!
LRBs work fine, its just not a nice solid bras anti roation collar like other guns. There is actualy very little strain on the anti rotation device. I have 2 versions of ani rotation devices for the mp40, one of them is really solid, and the other is cheaper to do but has to be maintained a bit. Ive done other mods too including miniature electionic selonid triggers, that make it fire much crisper. I've had alot of leaky triggers on my mp40s, (I own 4) Ive been working on mp40s for 6 years now, played lots of games with them.

Thank you for that Gordak, since I am obviously an uninformed peon!
Now it's time for my obligatory, "I told you so"
ROFL.

LOL, oh ya that made me look like a Guy on a short bus.
I was told a SCS would fit. And I know that Asahi can take LRB's. I should have said Asahi MP40. Not just Asahi, thats my bad.
Gordak, if you say you have it then thats all I got to know. You should post a topic on Classicairsoft.net When I was searching they made it seam that only a SCS would work.
Well gerry, there you go dude.

Thanks for that info Gordy I knew you could clear it up. I contacted Gordak back when I had my Asahi MP40 because he has a lot of knowledge about them. I remember him saying he had put a hop up Just couldn't remember which kind. What do you think about the TOP though Gordak. I know they end up super expensive but now that you upgraded to the PGC mechbox what do you think of the TOP?
As for which is better think of some of this stuff.
1. You still have to think of finicky gas mags. I have recently shot a lot of different classic gas guns in preparation for a possible trade that never occoured. All of the mags were fussy.
2. I am 100% that the TOP "looks" better. Mostly metal vs cheap looking plastic Asahi.
3. Maybe if you had Gordak tune it up for you and put in an LRB it might get good range and be a good skirmish weapon. PM him if you go that route see if he can help you. He's a busy guy though.

HA HA HA! SCS, LRB, PCG, LSD, PSE&G! I gotta admit..... I am an Airsoft idiot!...... Its all new (and Greek) to me LOL! and I have no Idea what any of it means The Idea of WW2 airsoft skirmishes has appealed soooo much to me that I just took a little info that I got on this website to start my shopping! I came across and Asahi(used) and a Top(brand new) on E-bay, I bid on both.... Turns out the Asahi got a little too pricey for me to continue bidding on even though it came with 5 mags, figured I am buying the gun so I can participate in a few skirmishes that will never come to my area anyways so why spend a buttload of $$$ on it! LOL I ended up getting the TOP for $355 on a best offer seemed pretty fair I think for a brand new model. I do recall the ad and a few reviews saying there was a lot of plastic on the Asahi and that the top was nearly all stamped metal and repro Bakelite, I also like the Idea of not having a hose. If I have to spend $400 to upgrade the gearbox later on, so be it I just hope I get to use the damn thing! Many thanks for the help guys!
