I've been working on this (plus another on for a friend)for a couple of months now and I've finally got it finished. All I need is a front sight assembly but they are impossible to come by in the UK (if any of you kind American chaps can source one for me, I'd be very grateful!). It's based on an all steel replica from Zib militaria in Germany and required extensive cutting and drilling in order to fit a V3 gearbox. I modified an AK47 hop to feed from the side and used a PSG1 length barrel. It's got a real steel rear sight in place of the p.o.s one that came with it, plus a cut down real steel (non functioning) cocking handle. It houses a custom 9.6v battery in the receiver behind the gearbox. It's got a great rate of fire and the drum mag holds about 1200 rounds. It's my new pride and joy, having lusted after an airsoft '42 for years.

They were £370 each plus post. They are pretty solid as well, the receiver steel is 1/4" thick!

Yes, that is very nice looking. I don't see your for sale price shown. Can't sell it that way.

Lol, I don't think I'll ever sell it! I've wanted a practical, aeg MG42 for years. I managed to source a real steel front sight and cone retainer and now have it fitted. All I need to find now is a real barrel change door. It's getting its' first run at a training day in November, before a game in December. To make life easier, I've uploaded the pictures to photobucket. s270.photobucket.com/albums/jj93/petee99d/MG42/

Pete, only one word: GREAT!!!
You made me want to build one. As an airsofter I waited for so long to have a MG42. Now AGM is about to release their but I don't want to wait anymore and, most important, I dont want a chinese pot metal copy of this beauty!
Pete, you made a favour to me and to everyone. And, last but non least, you used a Ver.3 gearbox that is known to be the most reliable and solid. I'm going to build from scratch the hop up unit from aluminium or stainless steel. I noticed that the grip had to be enlarged somehow.
Pete, if I needed some information, would you mind to share some information with me?
Thanks a lot.

No problem, any info' you need I'll try to help. I still have quite a few photos of the '42 build, although I have now sold it (I have a degenerative back condition and the '42 was just to big and heavy). JD7 still has the one I made for him.
It's much easier to modify an existing AK hop than to scratchbuild one by the way.

Thank you very much Pete. I'm sorry for your back...
I just contacted Heiko of Zib Militaria. By now a MG42+drum mag+cartridge belt+sling costs 630+€ shipped there in Italy. It's a lot of money but after all it's a MG42 steel+wood.
Did you encouter problems of misalignement of the barrel with the gearbox?
Ok for the HU unit. We'll see.
Thank you very much again.

Pete, if you would make it all over again, which gearbox is preferable, Ver.1 (Colt, G3) or Ver.3 (AK)?
