Can anyone tell me if the Shoei MP44 GBB is made of real stamped steel or just zinc alloy or some other pot metal? I'm sure many of the smaller cast parts are pot metal, but what about the main parts. A magnet will not stick to pot metal.

it's cast pot metal. Schmitty are you sure? the Shoei MP44 receiver is sheetmetal (same on my Shoei MG42, mostly mild steel)...I've never owned an MP44, just shot one. . and I recall the receiver is steel. a plastics and metal manufacturing background tells me that die casting is not for thin-wall application such as the MP44 receiver. That has got to be stamped and folded. have you shot the Shoei MP44 GBB? The recoil on it is close to the on par with my Escort M60E3 & MG42 and definitely more than an SP M16, YE/Escort MP5, and GHK AKS74U....if the Shoei MP44 receiver was pot metal, it would fail and crack miserably with the recoil..and I have yet to hear of a Shoei MP44 receiver cracking.

That is unfortunate if they are pot metal. I was thinking of getting one but then thought some of the parts look like cheap pot metal so I better ask around. I had 2 Shoei MP44 AEGs many years ago but don't recall what the metal was exactly and didn't test with a magnet. The barrel cover is blued stamped steel but is very thin compared to the receiver.
I agree, I would think pot metal wouldn't hold up very well against the Escort system, but then again maybe Shoei tested and it's fine.
Too much money to spend if that's the case.

I just ran a magnet over the body of my Shoei AEG and the only steel parts were the gas tube, front handguard and the metal fittings on the wood stock. I don't know what they used for the reciever, but it is non-magnetic.

I'm sure they wouldn't switch to stamped steel for the gas version either.

both the gas and AEG MP-44 made by Shoei definetly have cast (zinc/aluminum alloy) metal recievers. The MG-42 has a stamped metal reciever but a magnet still won't stick to it because its aluminum.

Where are the Shoei guns made? I know it's a Japanese company but didn't know if they were made elsewhere!!

Where are the Shoei guns made? I know it's a Japanese company but didn't know if they were made elsewhere!! Shoei guns are made in Japan. It's too bad they didn't just use stamped steel like original wartime MP44s instead of stamped alloy. The cost couldn't be that much more I would imagine. They're already expensive guns to begin with, so why not just go the extra step.

Because that would be quite illegal to do. The last time steel replicas were made in japan were in the late 60s, then the gunlaws changed and it was outlawed to make them in so sturdy materials.
