hello, does anyone know how to attach thompson 5 cell magazine pouches to your chest? do you just run the back end through your suspenders or is there a special way? thank you for all your help.

I believe you just run it through your suspenders.

keep in mind was usually done by paratroopers. But its basicly quite simple. Just put the suspender straps through the loop on the 5-cell pouch.
Me two cents

Any idea where you can find 5 cell 30 round thompson pouches? I know the 30 round mags will fit in the 20 round pouches but the flap wont be able to close.

Hey "guest"...drop me an email. I can hook you up with a good repro 5 cell, 20 round clip, ammo poch. The 30 round ammo poouched were only made to hold 3, 30 round clips.

Hey Zak. Thanks for the reply but I think I'd rather just stick with the thompson ammo bag that holds 6 rounds. I've read that the 30 round mags fit in the 20 round pouches but the flaps don't close. Don't really want to be running around and then realise I lost a few of ym expensive mags you know. Sorry about that but thanks anyways.

this is a little off topic but you guys do know that the 30 round clips on the real steal could only be loaded to 29 or else theyd be to heavy and fall out. When i was in Normandy i talked to a veteran and look at what he told me

too heavy? Fall out of what? The gun? That doesn't seem very likely that one extra round would suddenly cause it to be too heavy. It's more likely that squeezing that last round in would cause it to jam. This is true for a lot of magazines when filled to capacity.

It's definitely a case of slightly underloading full capacity so the spring tension would consistently feed the gun. (Not the weight) Regardless of the gun, every magasine in combat would typically be underloaded below capacity. In Vietnam the 20 round mags we were initially issued were generally loaded with 18. When we later got the 30 round we typically loaded them at 27 or 28 rounds. I'm sure the Thompson was the same way.
In Iraq and Afghanistan currently one of the big controversies is the Baretta's are only being loaded to 10 rounds and the troops ordered not to stretch the weak springs so they can load to the full capacity. An enhanced after market titanium spring is available that can accomodate full magazine capacity and it is about a $2.00 part so the troops who can are buying them on their own. Pity that.
As for the 5 pouch 20 round Thompson mags the Marui 30 round fit very very tightly (Quite awkward to slide in actually) and the flaps wrap around and snap. Consequently they hold just fine. I carry five that way in a chest set up and have never had a problem with them falling out. I use the large square pouch as a dump pouch. The actual 5 pouch mag pouches are incredibly expensive on Ebay. ($65 to 85.00) What is your price on the reproductions? Gordak?

No. The Airborne weren't the only ones to put mag pouches on there suspenders. Ive seen pics of 3rd ID guys doing the same thing. However, I don't think the mag pouches will retain the 30 rounders for long that way.
However,, By Wearing the 30 rounders in the Normal fashion,, I Have never had problems with my mags falling out. Remember, Its a 30 round mag, in a 20 round pouch. Most of the magazine is secure in its pouch. Just fold the flaps around the mag for support.
I Use the Mag bag as a drop pouch for empty mags.

Same here. The Marui Thompson mag is a bit thicker then the original, hence it's quite snug in the original pouches. It's definitely too tight to easily squeaze back in so you need something to use as the drop pouch. Like predator I use a Khaki mag bag as a drop pouch. A gas mask bag would work as well. Both the five pouch thompson pouch and the mag bag pouch have sure gotten expensive on Ebay however!
