This ebay seller has military pup tents (2 shelter halves) complete with stakes and poles. Total is $26 shipped. Not bad for two guys, $13 per person. stores.ebay.com/Global-Commodities_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amewaxQ3amesstQQtZkmTents are not 100% authentic, but the pup tent design has not changed much over the years. Poles and stakes are metal, but do not really show when tent is erect. This is a low cost alternative for US forces. My goal for realism is not to have items in view that will pull people "out of the moment" of 1945. These tents work for me. A bright red Coleman tent would pull me right out, but these tents pass for me. Other opinions are always welcome. Gerry let me know if these are not acceptable, and I will delete the post. Those tents are great for what you pay for them. As tents they're very easy to set up and surprisingly waterproof. The halves themselves are incredibly useful, even when not being used for a tent. I WOULD however purchase an extra pole or two, as they seem to literally crack under pressure. I had it happen to at least two of mine

Yes they are surprisingly waterproof, except one half of mine wasn't when I was caught outside in the rain. One half was soaked the other dry.

I've got two of them that I use for games and also for "camping" in the backyard with my kids.

Definitely better than these: Those are...uh..er..flamboyant? Haha. They're fairly waterproof, Mike and I used mine the night before LIBC and we were fairly dry. The big issue is the ground, get a good groundcloth.

Definitely good idea to get a ground cover. The field at Ground Zero is pretty sandy in the main firebase area. (Saved our butts at Liberty Canyon! That would have been so muddy if it wasn't for the sand!) I use a Jungle hammock as a ground cover, but you can really use anything. An OD tarp or poncho works as well.

Good call on the Jungle hammock, never thought of that. This should go without saying but you'd be surprised at the number of people that can't figure it out(Mike....). Bring BLANKETS, extra blankets. Better to have too many than not enough . It may be May I guarantee you'll FREEZE. Waking up in the middle of the night shivering sucks.

Bodhi, Those are fine to me but I am GI ignorant and haven't the slightest clue! Hi Mr. C Its Col. P from maineairsoft the people one this page are all very helpful and there is probly a thread on us uniforms so look around the site. Yankeediv put up a great GI reference thread on the ground zero forums a couple of weeks ago. Check it out: www.groundzeroairsoftusa.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?5661

For me, the key to an immersive event is not having anything that sticks out like a sore thumb and will pull people "out of the moment". These pup tents are correct enough for me, because I see one and I don't notice the metal tent poles and stakes. They keep people warm and dry, and the style has not changed much since the tents in 45.
It is the things that pull people "out of the moment" that hurt any immersive event. Loud talking about modern crap, mag dumping with hi-cap mags, ACU camo and tactical vests etc....
That is just how I feel.

What are the guns that will be rented? I just don't have the money (right now) for a decent mp44 or Thompson.

I don't understand the problem everyone is having with a concept of a total immersion event. If it doesn't look like it came from the era of WWII then leave it at home. I have been to enough of these events to understand that you do not want to be caught out in the weather overnight without at least a tent these tents are very inexpensive I've seen them as low as $12.00 and a most military surplus stores carry them. Here's a short list of the items that you will need if you wanna get a decent night's sleep 1 military pup tent 2 a canvas ground tarp 6x9(from Home Depot found in painting supplies) 3 two military wool blankets 4 a small camp inflatable pillow when not in use can be tucked under blankets to keep your camp authentic here again is my picture of my campsite last year as an example.

I agree Piper. My experience with total immersion events is that some newcomers seem to get nervous that their gear will not be good enough. The idea of 'total immersion' is pretty foreign to most 'modern' airsoft. (The main reason I don't play modern airsoft) There can be a slippery slope when combining re-enacting and airsoft. Some people get so caught up with DSA #'s and productions dates that they seem to miss the point. Your point is well taken, so I will repeat it, "If it doesn't look like it came from the era of WWII, then leave it at home." (Or at least make sure it is kept out of view.)
It is hard to come to an event if you feel like the first guy you see is going to laugh at you and kick you out because your tent was manufactured in 1950 and not 1941. (I've met those guys, and it is not for me.) Your picture of your campsite looks great and I think pictures like that are a great way to show newcomers just how easy it is to put together a cost conscience yet very effective campsite. Nobody wants to see that pink tent I posted earlier, at least not at THIS event.
The key to an immersive event is attitude. Do your best to immerse yourself in the experience, whether it is your uniform, your gear, your campsite, your tactics etc..... It will make the event more fun for everyone involved.
