The year is 1948 , the place is Buenos Aires Harbor in Argentina , the Italian Liner Andrea C has just arrived , on board is a very special passenger , he has come at the request of the President of Argentina , Juan Peron. Peron wants to set up a modern Air Force for Argentina , equal to the United States. A few days later a plane arrives at Aeroparque Airport in Buenos Aires , another important passenger is on this plane , he will design modern jets for Peron. 3 years later , 1951 , another plane arrives at the Aeroparque Airport , this time there are 2 very important passengers on board. For the past 3 years the passenger from the Andrea C has been working very hard to make the AAF(Argentine Air Force) the best in Latin America , he has been successful , now with his friends just arriving they will make the AAF even better. Here is a photo of the 3 friends They are Werner Baumbach (bomber commander), Hans U. Rudel (the Great Pilot of the STUKAS), and Adolf Galland(Fighter Ace,and the passenger from the Andrea C) Now remember the passenger from the plane that landed in '48? It was the famous aircraft designer, Professor Kurt Tank, who made several modern jet fighters for Argentina. Galland would be in Argentina from 1948 until 1955 , flying Gloster Meteors and teaching the new AAF pilots how to fly and fight in a modern Jet War, he was allowed to wear his Knights Cross with his AAF uniform

Well , the situation in South America at the time was very tense , Brazil had backed the Allies while Argentina had backed the Axis up intil the very end , a conflict could have broken up any time and President Peron wanted to make sure that our Air Force could keep the fighting outside our own border.
The Falklands was a huge mistake , the professional troops that Argentina had where kept in the mainland because the Junta was worried about Chile taking advantage of the war to cross the border and try to retake territory lost in the last war between Chile and Argentina. 18 year old conscripts from the North where sent to a climate they where not used to being in . Our Air Force was flying aircraft from the '60s/'70s , the Mirage IIIs and Israeli Kfir's where meant to intercept high flying fast Soviet bombers , not Harrier jets at low altitudes . The Air to Air missiles the Argentine Air force was using where outdated and tended to chase down any heat source that it detected , the British where given brand new generation US Sidewinder's . Even tough we where at a disadvantage we still managed to give a big bloody nose to one of the top fighting forces in the world , the Royal Navy suffered the biggest losses ever since the end of WWII.
