Will Carbine mags fit in a garand bandoleer pouch? From the pictures it looks like it should fit, but I don't want to buy a $10 separate pouch for each mag not including the belt itself. Would the mags fit in somthing like this?

No. Carbine magazines will not fit in a Garand cartridge belt. Also be advised that the Marushin carbine magazines are slightly larger then the real steel carbine magazines so in order for them to fit in the carbine twin pouch you have to detach and then reattach the small flap on the front that houses the prong for the flap snap slightly higher on the pouch. You have to reposition it about 1/4 to 1/2 inch higher. Riggers pouches work just fine with no alteration and will hold three to four magazines quite easily. Also the first aid pouch will hold a carbine magazine with room to spare. Note: I just went out and for the first time compared the 8mm magazines with the older original 6mm carbine magazines. Oddly enough the 8mm magazines are slightly less long. They might actually fit in an unmodified carbine twin pouch. I wouldn't know because I have three carbine pouches and have modified them all!

Great to know. It looked like they might and that saves a bit of tweaking which is always nice!
Tip: With the carbine two pocket pouches there are two styles. One has a full reverse side flap with a snap in the middle. It was designed to snap on to the plain web belt. The other style has two thin flaps on the reverse side to accomodate slipping on a belt of virtually any size. The reason I note this is you commonly see carbines with the ammo pouches fitted to the rear of the carbine stock. A very handy set up by the way.
The full snap flap is the only style that fits over the stock without modification. Also its best if you position your sling (which is held in place on the rear stock with the carbine oiler dropped into the cut out stock well) under the mag pouch and routed forward. If you don't do this, the pouch will readily slide forward on the stock and be awkward.
For one of my carbines I cut a section of wood dowel down to size to serve as the oiler to hold the sling in place and that worked well. The snap two pocket carbine pouches tend to bring more money then the later style. Also you can find the carbine pouches in Khaki (early war) OD (late war) and oddly enough a combination of both (trim and flap portions in OD and main pouch sections in Khaki, or vis-a-versa!)
I think the carbine pouch on the stock looks cool and is a very functional set up for skirmishing. It does add a bit of weight to the gun but since the Marushin carbine runs on the light side it feels better to me.
