I am thinking about buying a wood kit and CYMA Thompson for me/my dad. I want to buy it because there was a WWII game at my field and I missed it for two reasons,I don't have a WWII gun and a guardian has to be there if you are under 16. SO I don't have two WWII guns. The gun is 225$ and I have 140$ and I am saving for it. MY dad will probably pitch in because it will be his gun too. After this buy I want to get the AGM mp40. Guess I am getting too far ahead here . I want to get submachine guns because I don't like the looks of the MP44 and I am too lazy/unexperienced to make my own gun. Anyways I want to know a little about the Thompson's bolt. When you you put the magazine in does the bolt stay back, and you shoot? or is it you put the magazine in and you pull the forward bolt back and shoot? I wanna know because I was searching and found out that the m1a1 has a closed bolt and so does the mp40. I want the most realism and the model I am getting the bolt flies back and it is unrealistic. So I was thinking about taking the charging handle spring out for more realism.

the bolt is just for looks, it has no purpose.

I actually did that with my TM and MM M1928 Thompson, I removed the spring so the bolt stays back after cocking it and it looks better that way when on display.
Its very easy to do and will in no way effect the function of anything on the gun that is vital.
