The inner barrel is really the only thing that can't be over come. They have a "gas bolt" to replace the spring bolt, but that still leaves the crappy hop-up and two piece barrel. The hop-up can be fixed.
So there ya go...get the gas bolt fix the hop-up and hope for the best.

Somewhere out there are a number of threads on upgrading this gun. I had a guy up in WA put in a one piece barrel. I figured out a way to make cheap shells out of Mauser brass. I removed the rod in the bolt that impeded airflow and I pretty much eneded up with what I would guess is a marginal rifle for skirmishing. I never got it to be as accurate as my USR11. However as a collector I'm very fond of the gun. I have access to some RS K98s and the model functions like the real thing. I said this before in another post, in skirmish involving real magizine capacities with a German platoon built around an LMG this gun will shine. Otherwise it's a neat collectors item.

Take out both barrels in the Dboys Kar98, measure them and search for a 6mm airsoft barrel that size. I doubt a new barrel would be hard to find.

This was for the springer. The guy in WA is a member here but, being old and feeble and at the moment sick, I forget his name.

Do with the sights? You leave them on of course! I think he is saying the barrel for the springer and the inner barrel should nest nicely within the outer barrel, so the sights shouldn't be affected. Right now i am working on a cheap solution to make shells out of .5 inch PolyPropylene Rod stock (should be less than 50 cents a shell for the first batch, cheaper as i go on) for the shells, and i am almost done with retrofitting a bolt for use with co2, and want to put a rifled barrel in there, to give it lots of accuracy (and custom made bullets ;D), and I will update when that comes online.

Metal ejecting mech on poly equals you tearing through a whole lot of shells you realize right?

Metal ejecting mech on poly equals you tearing through a whole lot of shells you realize right? Ya, i am making them cheap, so i don't worry about losing them in a game (once i figure it out, and bulk order the stock it will be less than 10 cents a shell, vs using metal, it wouldn't be less than 50 cents a shell, even with a super bulk order of metal rod). Torn up ones will be recycled, but if i lose them at the rate i lost the metal ones while skirmishing, i wont have to worry too much about getting chewed shells . I was thinking bio based materials, but then i used corn starch utensils, and i hated it too much.

Sorry, I'm not that sick but the illness is irritating enough that I'm not sleeping. It's amazing what that does to your thought processes. I thought reply #7 was directed to me. I think the member goes by Hellmut and I think he's recently closed his shop, so I doubt if he's available. If you search for "roll your own 8 x 57" you'll find my instruction for makin rounds for this gun.

are there any other ways to upgrade it or is that it? I believe the spring is the same spring as that of a standard sniper rifle, so obviously, you should be able to upgrade the FPS. Now i am not sure on that, because i have no sniper rifle springs to compare it to at the moment, but it is longer and thinner than an AEG spring, which is what i remember a standard sniper rifle spring looking like.

Is the spring in the 98k a sniper rifle spring or some special spring? It would be nice to be able to simply swap a spring in to increase fps on top of the bolt mod but I dont wanna get my hopes up.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one. So here goes, does anyone know if you can buy a stronger spring for the Dboys kar98. I would like to increase it to more around 400-500fps.
