Looks great, Needs to be aged a little, Scuff with sand paper or maybe a light black or brown wash over the new paint (using waterbased black paint from a crafts store thinned way down with water). Or maybe just let it age with use, it looks good the way it is too!

lol I will try the wash- I did actually 'age' these by dry brushing the OD green over the top so that the underlying helmet color would be 'wearing through'
Guess I need to do some more ;D
Thanks guys!

Looks great. Often in pictures the aging process doesn't show as much as in person. Another idea is lightly rub on burnt cork.

if the cleaness really pisses u off, just hit it with moderatly dirty water (mix it good), and then let it dry. -Gordak

;D Well like my 'minty' m42 jump uniform that brought so many "Uhhh You need to get it dirty" comments in a separate thread ......... This is a battlefield helmet- I simply need to get to the battlefield to put it to use- i.e. dive in a few foxholes, duck behind a few bushes, trip over a few bootlaces..... you get the picture and it will recieve it's 'baptism by fire' and be all good and worn in and appropriately marked ;D -G

You've inspired me Guinness. I'm going to do a Medic Pot outta one of the plastic guys. If it comes out looking anywhere near as nice as yours I'll be delighted. I've seen a wide variety of photos with most looking like your design, some with circles only on the sides and some with square flat white surrounds for the red crosses.

Thank you John, everybody! ;D We are having a 'Ardennes' game in 2 weeks up in the foothills on Natl Forest land and my Son is going to be a medic, so I made the pot for him. The game was actually supposed to be this weekend, but we are supposed to get snow starting tonight and going through Monday, so we felt it was best to postpone the game rather than actually experience the frostbite and hypothermia that was part of the real Bulge experience Here is the site I used for my research data: home.att.net/~medichelmet/And here is another shot of the helmet from the back showing the 'Non-Comm' stripe -G

Man thats a heck of a lot better of what i did on my 506th pir spade. The spade is nice its just the green paint around the spade. Oh man whats the point of doing a bulge battle if you don't experiance the sickness! ;D

A quick hint on helmet graphics. Draw it on thin cardboard until you're happy with the design (Size shape and proportions) then cut the final shape out as a sort of stencil. I usually draw in the outline in pencil and then use those paint pens to color in the design. I've done Ranger Diamonds, Officer and NCO bands, a spade and an "R" for the recon company of the 101st. I've also done a couple officer insignia. (Captain and Lt Col.) I've learned to put a dull wash over the finish to give it a battle worn look and pray over that with dull coat.
I'm quite pleased with the helmets and the designs.
