Hey, I was wondering if I should spend my money or save it. Apparently in Illinois it is legal to buy and own a deactivated firearm without a FOID card if a person over 21 buys it. I even found this great site with a huge selection of military antiques and deactivated firearms. www.militaryantiquesmuseum.com/military_antiques.php?pz=1&searchunder=category&searchfor=Antique+and+Deactivated+FirearmsNow at the moment from my summer job I only have enough for either a Moisin Nagant or an Enfield MK111 No. 1. Both are in the mid $200 range. A Springfield 1903 A3 is in the mid $400 range. In your opinion should I save my cash for a Springfield or spend now for one of the cheaper rifles?

What exactly are you doing with the gun? Wall hanger? Conversion? I think it sucks the demilled mosin costs more than a firing one...

I would be using the rifle for living history displays and for use as a wall hanger in my house.

I paid about $450 for a real 03A3. Mosin Nagant, about $150, MK III Enfield about $250.
Sucks that you live in the Peoples Collective of Illinois.

$400 is just such a rip off for a deact. I just saw a real steel Springfield for $400 the otherday.

Save up and get a CMP M1. They're 400 at the lowest grade, and you will not regret getting a wall hanger which is worthless. Have a guardian purchase it for you and they can "own" it till you are old enough.

Paying that much for a dead gun is nuts. By something that works. If nothing else, it will only go up in value with time. Plus, you have no idea how much fun some of those old guns are to shoot. Until you shoulder dies.... ouchie.

Colhesler wants to buy a deact because his mom won't let him get a real one and the Reenacting unit he is in won't let him use his Marushin M1 Garand for a display. They said it must be a deact or real steel. Still I'd just suggest you play Medic until your old enough to buy a gun yourself.

Real deal is better because you'll have this deactivated rifle in your house and after a while you're going to wish that you'd bought the real thing when an opportunity to go to a shooting range arises. You can also fire blanks out of it for reenactments.
Often times the real deals are cheaper than the deactivated ones. A guy my dad knew was getting rid of some of his gun collection a few months ago and sold us a 1916 MKIII Lee Enfield for $100 and A WW2 Lee Enfield No.4 MKI for $125.

Quick Question: Why is it that some Deac guns are sometimes more expensive than a Live one?

I am not sure though this is my guess, not a whole lot of people are going to get a deactivated gun as they'd just want a live one. However the people who sell deactivated guns raise the price as high as a live one because they know there are people who can't get a live one(against the law, parents don't like it or whatever) and have no choice but to get an overly priced deact. I am sure thats not always the case but it makes sense to me.

^ That, and the fact that the seller has to go through the process of properly deactivating the gun. Where as for the original, all they have to do is order them straight out of the warehouses and dust them off for sale.

Haha, yeah it's hard to get anything here, there's a couple of companies that won't even send airsoft guns here.

Ill. is one of the worst anti-gun States in the Country after CA. Got to LOVE California. M1 carbine is totally fine to own. M1A1 carbine is and "evil" weapon and banned. I think it's funny that the word "evil" is used in laws written by a bunch of liberal scum bags in the CA congress that don't believe that rapists and murders are "evil" they are just sick and need help. Guns are evil though. Right. AKs are banned but an SKS is OK. ARs are evil but Mini 14s are OK. None of it makes any sence at all.

Anyways, Spain is much worst on Gun related laws. If you get a Deactivated firearm, first you have to get some type of liscence and then they come from time to time to see if the deac is still deac. If not, you can get like 5 years imprisonment. I had a friend that modified a deac CETME to fit in a Ver.2 GB and got fined round 5000 euros.
