Greetings to all, This is my first submission, hope someone will help. I am strictly a collector of WWII fire arms. Since I cannot afford the originals I have settled on reproductions or Airsoft versions. They seem most adequate for now. My question is are the orange muzzle nuts on the MP40's & MP44's threaded on? I would like to remove these and install reproductions. I know the gov't frowns on this but as I see I can take an original of each and paint the muzzle nuts orange. You can see where I am going with this. Besides they are tagged and never leave the house. So what do you suggest for safely removing the orange tips. As long as I know they are threaded I think I can get them off. I am concerned though of the threads if there are any will be clogged with glue & plastic. I just got my MP44 yesterday and it has a MP40 muzzle nut on it. The pin just above the muzzle nut is fully repressed into the housing. I think it will pop out if the muzzle nut is removed. MP40 & MP44 differ in that the grooves in the 40 are fine. The 44 has grooves that allow the pin to fit into them. I assume they are threaded since I can't imagine AGM & the like making a barrel for US & another barrel for oversea's purchases. Thanks for looking and advising. Jim

The most common way to get a glued on muzzle nut off is to immerse the nut on the barrel in boiling water until it gets hot, and then use pliers wrapped in a towel to ease it off. If these are not metal, then you have a problem though. As for the threads being clogged with glue and plastic, this method should get everything off and unclogged, but again, boiling water should take off any residual glue (and after that, maybe use a utility knife to pry out the tough glue, after it has been heated to soften it) Also, don't forget to depress any pins or remove any grub screws that are holding the muzzle not on there.
