Alrighty then...its been a goal of mine for some time to get myself a good o'l fassion jeep, thats in a bit of a fixer-uper condition, and do a historical restoration on it....however I have NO idea where to find a jeep. I actually have alot of documentation and websites on HOW to restore it, but none where I can buy one *mostly I need one that has a running engine, since I don't really have the means to fabricate new parts for it*
Anyone here know of any place where one could get ahold of such an item??

Be prepared to spend money. Lots of it. WW2 vintage Willys and Ford GPs are big dough either to buy done or get there. For the best restoration site anywhere highlighting the complete restoration of both a Ford and a Willys as well as a Bantom trailer go to: members.aol.com/darryld/wwii-jeep/index.htm While this fellow does work of the caliber of Schmittys work he showcases how to do it absolutely right. In fact he over does it to the degree that he won't even drive them in the rain. You will note under costs that he invested over $25,000 in the restoration process for EACH Jeep. I've spent roughyly $7,500 on mine (bought it 10 years ago) and was offered $14,000.00 for it (which I should have taken!) They are typically bringing $8,000 to $15,000 in good to great shape. If you find a rust bucket for next to nothing that's what you'll have!

The post war Willys in some ways are superior vehicles but because they don't have the cache of a war era vehicle can be purchased for far less money. Unfortunately a Jeep in such bad shape that it is given away is usually not worth free!

Yes to the first part (1942 Willys) and no to the second. I have had it for 11 years. I found it in New Mexico where it was purchased from a WW2 vet with cancer. He bought it surplus from the Army in 1951 (hence I am the second owner or 3rd if you count the Army) My son and I took a year to finish it all off in the appropraiet flat OD of the time with circle star markings and the period correct BLUE hood numbers. It has a verifiable 18,782 miles on it. Only 14,527 when the Army surplused it. Obviously it hasn't been driven much. I drive it in parades and such. It'll be at Carentan here in the NW. I recently mounted a .50 Cal on it.

The money issue, SORTA isn't an issue. I figure if I want to do it right, its going to cost alot, but its something I've wanted to look at getting for a few years now *even before getting into airsoft*. But I suppose I might wait a few years more to get the project going, especially since I don't have a good place to do it ATM.

You need space to do the work and of course space to store it. It is an absolutely marvelous vehicle to own. Easy to work on and parts are still available at fairly reasonable prices. Mine is completely stock, still has the 6 volt system, combat rims, full canvas and no ignition! The only thing not authentic is it has an electric fuel pump. I don;t advise thinking about it as a daily driver as it is extremely unstable at speeds over 35. I trailer mine most places I take it and admire Schmitty who drives his fairly long distances in extreme temperatures.

We'll I'm looking at getting a differnt pad, hopefully one with a Garage on it. If that ends up happening here soon, It might be something I would like to do . Especially since you can get parts still!! I suppose I have a few other things to get first, but this is on my shopping list for sure. Thanks for the help guys. *Oh, and if your ever coming to Colorado, bring the jeep with ya, so Chris and I can get a photo opt done!

I was looking in one of those auto seller booklets that you see at the entrance of gas stations and other stores, there was a 1943 Willys Jeep in there for $5000 it was down in Oaklahoma City.
it said it runs great, the only thing that needed to be done was repaint it(it was blue), and other minor outside apearence modifications.
it still had its canvas top!

damn....I would almost put that on the visa!!!
Especially if painting is all it needed, I suppose there are deals to be had out there...just need to look. Question is, how many people that own jeeps use them in airsofting?

I would, jeeps are meant to get used. No point in a shiny willys if all you're gonna do is stare at it!

If all the Jeep needed was paint $5,000 is a steal. You do from time to time see exceptional buys from folks who simply don't know the value but they are very rare. Generally you get what you pay for. If it looks too cheap to be true there are usually lots of unseen challenges and shortcomings or titling issues.

it looked like it needed new tires, the tires on it looked bigger than the ones used during ww2.
But it is still a steal tho

Uh oh, Bigger tires probably means bigger engine. It's hard to find an unmolested jeep becasuse for many years there wasn't much interest or value in keeping them original, In fact it wasn't cool to drive a military vehicle so people took great effort to civilianize them. Many have had v6 or v8 engines installed, Bigger wheels and tyres, roll bars, heaters, radios ,cb's, colourfull paint jobs etc.
Also tough to find one that doesn't have some rust. There is an X shaped brace in the floor pan that originaly has wood inside it. The wood holds moisture and causes the floor to rust.
I bought mine (42' MB) for $3500.00 and have since spent another $3000 or so on it. I have used it in several airsoft games and I drive it to work regularly.
