I'm very pleased with how this event turned out. The use of tactics and field phones really kicked up the realism, but there is still many things that can be changed such as down time between games allies and germans hanging out to much, loose lips sink ships, bringing out non period items to the field and the non period talk. Personally I think it is 10x's more fun and interesting to stay as period acurate and military as possible. Also it will bring more people into the airsoft. Camping out together under the stars as soldiers suffering hardships together brings you closer to the World War Two expierenece and what our boys had to go through and gives you a new understanding. The Rangers had a blast and we are heading in the right direction lets keep it that way, carry on men.

As you get a larger turnout seperation of forces becomes more practical. Full immersion is great to strive for. At Gothic line we had a seperate camp for the Germans and other then a few rare occassions you never really saw any except during the tacical phases or missions. A distribution of phrases and pre established period sounding nicknames for every player was a nice touch as was the 40s music constantly playing as people arrived and appropriate times during the event.
Helmutt coordinated the liason between the two elements both by radio and in person and literally changed impressions as he entred each camp. Commanders for both elements had a controller frequencie and were kept abreast of delays or circumstances between mission phases with worthwhile and realistic things to for both sides to do during delays.

Yeah I can say I was the one who brought non WW2 Items into the camp , what did you expect, Im a Marine in Tropical gear camping out in 35 degree weather ;D, and I still froze my ass off even in my Vietnam area all weather winter coat and modern light sleeping bag. ;D I do however plan on buying an ETO winter impression big time, including camping gear so that we have period camp gear and impression for myself for the November event. (and I still stand by my desicion to bring Dunken donut Donut Holes for breakfast into the camp ;D) TommyGunner

Full immersion is something to shoot for I agree. However, seeing as we are still small here in the midwest, and a lot of people are new to the hobby, it will resemble more of a tactical game for the next few events instead of WWII reenacting.
Believe me, nothing would cause a party in my pants more, than having a 2 day event that is always "on". That's what I am shooting for. So bare with me when I ask you guys to join the group for tactical, safety, & scenario discussins. You can get back to your Dunkin Donut holes & field phones as soon as everyone is on the same page and ready to enjoy the event. ;D

Capt. Zak
I'll try to bring some ideas of what your asking for to the turn out if time allows it for me. I wish I could have been there after what Sean had talked about, sounded like a real great time for all. Maybe by then i'll know a little more German and some of those great songs we sang at Rockford and Lowell. ;D Maybe even try to get a few of the other guys interested also, but we'll see.

Another thing that would kick up the realism would be if everybody acted a little more adult when on the field.
I saw a gross miss use of other peoples stuff. I saw some guys swinging Tom's machete around and banging it against trees and other stuff, and because of that, the blade has a bend in it. Also, I noticed after I got home, my E-tool was all banged up on one side like somebody was hacking at a tree with it. the shovel is bent up as well.
When we lend out our stuff we expect a little field ware, the damaged on these tools were not normal field ware. Tom and I have used both many times out in the woods and they never have gotten so beat up. We've gone out and dug a several foxholes with our e-tools, so we know what normal field ware is.

I also agree with CPL. Mills 2nd Rangers. It would be nice if people took more resposibility for the stuff that they barrowed out.

Likewise, with the field use, my E-Tool now has a nice big crack in the weld line, where someone was smacking it into a tree. Cmon guys, a lil more responsibility. Oh, Nick, my friend accidently packed up one of your springer pistols, thought it was mine, so, I'll return that to you next event?

SOmeone left a medic helmet behind as well. Also...who was misusing these shovels? If they were at the allies base camp I am assuming the allies were the ones whacking around with them? If that's the case, when did it happen? You guys were circle jerkin' in those fox holes the whole event. I just hate to hear stories that can spoil the event's momentum.

The medic helmet is mine, my friend didn't pack up the gear I lent him, but took others... The shovels, I will take blame for, the men under my command were ordered to dig the foxholes and defenses, and I didn't watch them close enough, I was digging up bunkers.

Hey another wat to turn it up is maybe a C-47? That would be cool right. Don't mean to stir things up here, but I wouldn't really say hardships because nobody can ever face the hardship that out veterans faced and are still facing unless you can actually say you've been in frontline action.

It shouldn't be neccessary but it's always a good idea to lay out expectations. In writing prior to the event and just prior to in a short briefing. Jot down all the things that need to be covered right now while their fresh and task someone with compiling it all in a short list for distribution and assign someone to go over it in your briefing before scenarios. Do it in formation right after you've formed everyone up in their manuever elements.

After Action Review, brother. Go over what happened, what was supposted to happen and how to make it better next time. Our group usually does this over a beer and pizza when the shootings done. It has made good things betterand stopped some bad things from happening again.

Yeah I have to agree a list with everything people were issued to use for the event, and then a check list for items being returned and inspected.

A check list would be a useful idea.
